Rescue Me ID: 16-12-10-00418Sookie (female)
Sookie is a 5-year-old Australian shepherd mix who was a stray taken to a southern Indiana shelter where she lived for 1.5 years. She finally found a special someone who fell in love with her despite her quirks, which are many--she doesn't like dogs, cats, or kids, and she isn't always 100% housebroken. Just when her life seemed to be going great, her mom had some unexpected news--she's pregnant. It's just not going to be possible to raise a new baby and properly care for Sookie under the same roof. Remember: Sookie doesn't like kids. So, now what? This is where the community of dog lovers comes in. There IS someone perfect for her out there; we just have to find him/her/them! And now for the awesomeness that is Sookie. She is oh so loving and sweet. We met her and were instant friends. She was very trusting of us, friendly and appreciated any affection being dished out. In her home she is very cuddly and loves to curl up and watch TV. Basically a 50-pound lap dog. She loves to go for walks and walks well on leash. She is a medium energy girl, but would do great with an active person as well. Sookie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, and microchipped. She is housebroken IF she has a consistent schedule and is leashed walked at least once a day. She is crate trained and has great house manners. If you would like to help Sookie please complete an adoption application on our website at www.pawswapofgreaterlafayette.com/adopting. Her adoption fee is $150. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-12-00418Buck (male)
My name is Buck and I have not been treated very well but even through it all I am still a smart and sweet boy. When my rescue got me I could barely support my weight on my back legs and walk, I was super skinny and you could see my ribs. My owners that surrendered me said I was 16 but my rescues' vet doesn't think I am that old. When I came to the rescue they treated me for fleas which is why I didn't have hair on the back or tail and they got me some joint meds and I am a totally different dog. My hair has started to fill in and I walk great now and even run. I like to sleep a lot and just relax. My rescue took me in because a shelter was not a good fit for me and said if I don't get adopted I will just live out the rest of my life here being loved but I would really like my own home. If you are interested in meeting me contact my rescue, Like Home Animal Rescue and fill out an adoption application. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-05-00464Lo (female)
I took Lo in about 6 months ago with another female dog so she wouldn't go back to the shelter. We also have three other dogs and I bottle feed orphaned kittens. Little did I know she was food aggressive and territorial with things she believes hold value to her. She is an extremely loving dog with her humans, but she desperately needs someone who is stern and dominant (NOT aggressive or angry) and who has either no aninals or one dog. i have tried working around her aggression and have been forced to keep her outside during the day, where she eats, and she is allowed to come inside and sleep on the bed if she doesn't growl at any of the other pets. She has a super silly personality and loves to run outside. She knows siy, down, stay, off and a few other commands. I am just a few days away from my due date and am terrified that she will hurt my baby. I DO NOT believe in pushing off an animal on the shelter and know they would noy work with her whatsoever and end up putting her down. She has lunged at people, so i will be very, very careful about this rehoming. I have spoken to several dog trainers who have said they believe she can be taught new ways, but with a baby almosy here i can neither afford a trainer nor do i have the excessive time it takes to care for her anymore. Please text or call me if you are interested in her! Again, she is a wonderful dog, i just dont believe my home is the right home for her (her previous owner says he did not have these problems) i believe it could be because we do have other pets and they make her nervous. If i feel you are a perfect match and all goes wee I will wave the fee. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-26-00348Tucker (male)
Tucker is an outstanding dog. He belongs to my son who has moved due to work and unable to take him. I already have 2 other dogs. Tucker is use to being around livestock; horses, mules, donkeys, chickens, and goats. He is a natural herder which can be a problem. He needs more attention and a job. He's house broke and safe to leave in the house. Will kill baby chickens but not adults. Great dog. Hate to see him go but I do not have the time he needs. He needs somebody to harness it ability to herd. He's always at your side and whiling to help at any chance. I can get pictures of him. Please consider him.

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-08-00124Journey (female)
Hi! My name is Journey! I am a mellow, sweet, undemanding, go with the flow girl who is longing for a loving, indoor, forever home. I love walks, short or long. I also like to hang out for short periods of time in my foster mom's fenced in back yard. I just like to lay in the warm sun on a cool day, or under a shady tree on a warm day. I also like to play with tennis balls and other toys. I am 10 years old, but still have a good energy level... but, not too much. I do love naps and nuzzling my foster mom, too. I am 100% housebroken. As a matter of fact, I've been with my foster mom for a couple months now, and have never once had an accident! I am crate trained, but also reliable if left out. I have never chewed anything up, except for a tasty rawhide. I DO like those... and treats... any kind of treats! The vet said I need to take off a few pounds, so I have been on a diet, though. My foster mom can explain more about how she is helping me. I am great with cats! I am ok with other laid back dogs who mind their own business, but I really don't care to interact with other dogs. I am such a wonderful girl! Please give me your heart and a place to call MY home. I am vaccinated, spayed, negative for heartworms, and the vet said I should have many more years left. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-06-17-00289Scottie (male)
Scottie is a 2 year old mix. We have his mother (Great Pyrenees) and sister. He has been used as a livestock guardian. He has been around people of all ages, cats, dogs and livestock (goats). We have had no problems with any of these. He is being rehomed only because he is not good with chickens. He can be a bit jumpy at times but with more attention this behavior does improve. If he does not find another home soon we will have to take him to the animal shelter.

Rescue Me ID: 16-03-10-00470Jade (female)
We have had a recent addition to our family. Our son. Everything was going well until our son tried to play with our dog, Jade. She growled at him. Now, I'm not sure if we can keep her because he is only going to get more curious as he gets older. I don't want her biting our son. So, unfortunately, she needs to find a new home.

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Shepherd in Indiana
Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.
