Rescue Me ID: 15-02-28-00227Rachel & Rebekkah (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

They are two sisters, 14 years old, border collie/Australian shepherd mixes. They are inseparable and very loving dogs. Good with most other dogs, depending on the personality of the other dog. Good with cats (one is terrified of them, the other ignores) and kids, still fairly high energy but a lot calmer now that they are old. Goofy and loving, very intelligent trained with sit/stay/come (though they're a bit deaf nowadays). Rachel will bark in the mornings when you get up, no matter what, so you can expect that greeting each morning--whether that's annoying or endearing is up for debate :) Looking ideally for a home with a yard and ... (Read More)someone who is home often throughout the day to give love and let outdoors. Expenses WILL be compensated, so really just need a good home without adding the burden of costs. Though eventually looking for a full-time home, fostering would absolutely help for a couple weeks or months, if someone is up for that but not adoption. Timeframe is ASAP. (Less)

Animal ID: 0187Percy (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Fosters Bio: At a little over a year of age, Percy is a very energetic, vibrant dog! He's loving and affectionate, and his super-soft fur make petting him a special pleasure. He also gets along well with other dogs, with lots of energy for playing with similarly energetic pets. As with other Australian shepherds, his energy needs outlets to be channeled into positive pursuits. He's great on walks and has even gone on 6-7 mile runs with me. If you interested in adopting Percy, please go to www.australianshepherdsfurever.org and click the 'Need Furever Homes' link at the top of the page.

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-16-00642Montgomery (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Montgomery is simply wonderful, sweet, loving, well mannered, leash trained, house trained, non-destructive. Here's his story. About 6 months ago I was notified of a dog at work. He was scared, he would see a human and run away as fast as his legs would carry him. I would leave food and water and he wouldn't return to that spot again. I would see him sporadically over the months. Then one day I saw he had a broken leg. A compound fracture. It's winter time and the nights are in the 20's and wet. I set the trap, I left food. Nothing. I called in professionals - nothing. His leg looked bad. He didn't go near the traps. Weeks passed and it was ... (Read More)nasty cold with no sightings. I figured he had not made it. Then one day there he was, outside my office window!!!! I set the trap again after being told where he was sleeping. Nothing all day. Then right before I left work there he was in the trap with his tail wagging and a smile on his face! The fracture healed naturally but it is not pretty. He will forever have a bump on his hind leg. He uses the leg, walks on it, jumps around and shows no signs of discomfort so the vet said to leave it alone. He was also heartworm negative! He is funny and goofy and loves to chase lights on the ground. Montgomery is one lucky boy to say the least - will he be lucky enough to win your heart and your home??? If interested in adopting Montgomery please visit KRRTX.ORG and fill out an application. KRR is a TX based rescue that works with transports to bring adoptable dogs out of high kill TX to the NE area. The adoption fee of $355 covers the cost of transportation and health certificate. Thank you for considering adding Montgomery to your home! (Less)

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Berlin and his seven littermates wound up in a rural SC high-kill shelter. They are about 14 weeks old. This cute boy was growing up with no person or family of his own to play with or love him. DDB decided to bring him to the DC metro area to find him a loving home. He is a sweet, squirmy, little guy who enjoys playing and cuddling. Berlin has a mellow temperament for a puppy. He loves to play with his toys and likes to explore the yard. Berlin is good with dogs, but he has not had any experience with cats. He is at a great age for bonding with a new person or family. Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

As of 2.2.15 - I'm still looking for my new home with you! Do you have the time to let me run in a backyard or on a walk, and also want to cuddle in the evenings? I am a beautiful Aussie Mix female. I'm 3 years old and about 55 lbs. I was adopted from a NC shelter at about 3 months. I have lived with two other dogs for the last 3 years, they are older at 10 and 11 years old (also medium sized dogs) - I don't play very nicely with them. I'm looking for a forever home where I can be the star of the show - I am very trainable with food rewards. My crate can be purchased for $40 (its a nice large crate I sleep in at night). I am in good ... (Read More)health (maybe a tad overweight, I should be about 50lbs), am spayed, micro-chipped, and up-to-date on all vaccines. Best is to email first with any questions and information about yourself/family. Thanks for reading about me! (Less)

lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Virginia Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
