Rescue Me ID: 15-07-26-00243Morgan (female)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Morgan is a 1 year old Australian Shepherd. She is good with other dogs and teenagers and adults. She has a strong herding instinct and would LOVE to be on a farm watching or keeping animals all day. She can sit, lie down, walk on a leash, and has a 'spot' in the house where she stays when she is inside, but mostly she is an outside dog. She sleeps in her crate at night. Morgan wants to be a good dog, but she nips while herding my small children (never aggressively), and would be so much happier where she can herd to her heart's desire. Please contact me if you think Morgan would be a good match for you.

Rescue Me ID: 15-07-23-00342Sammy (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Sammy is a beautiful dog. He is a heeler/Aussie mix. White with black spots, blue merling around face. He has the head of a heeler, body and hair length of an aussie. Sammy is a love bug, he loves attention, he loves to play frisbie and fetch tennis balls, and run with our other aussie in the yard and wrestle and run in the nearby feild by our house and he also loves water and likes when we take him to the river for a swim. He knows commands sit, stay, come, bring it, fetch, shake, high five and high ten. He lays down patiently and waits for his turn to be fed. He plays well with our other aussie and bluetick coonhound, he has however ... (Read More)exhibited agression with our 2 smaller dogs (shelties). He has also bitten all three of his humans on one occasion each, last was very recently when he bit my husband, for this reason we have come to the very difficult decision to rehome him as this may not be the best fit for him. we have had him since he was 16 weeks old and he has come a long way, we just feel perhaps someone who is familiar with the heeler breed would be better able to work with him and find him a suitable home. For the reason above I would not put him in a home with children under the age of mid teens and if other dogs in the home would have to be of the same size and perhaps temperament so that Sammy could not bully them. We beleive he would be a great pet to the right home and he has been a great pet to us, and it saddens us to have to rehome him as we are into rescuing dogs not rehoming them, but we feel it is best for him and us. Please feel free to contact me for additional info, pics, or videos and if interested in being sammy's forever home or foster home to work with and prepare him for his forever home. (Less)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

My name is Sadie & I was sent to a scary place called the dog pound because my owner could no longer take care of me. Problem with that is that the shelter she sent me too has little public exposure & I was almost sure to loose my life because of that. However the rescue ladies who come in to the pound all the time happened to see me cowering in the back of my run & they decided to get me out. Now I'm hanging out here at this place they call a foster home until my new real home can find me. I am a year old, UTD on all my shots & I have already been spayed. I'm good with the other dogs here but I'm not sure about the cats (I like to chase ... (Read More)them). I am good with kids but because I have LOTS of puppy energy still the rescue recommends that I go to a home with kids over the age of 10. I am housebroken, walk nice on my leash & LOVE to ride in the car. Want to give me a new home? Applications are online at www.lostfantasystables.org (Less)

Kane is my 2 year baby girl! It saddens me gravely to have to relocate her but I know it will be the best option to provide her with better stability. I am not asking for a adoption fee to myself but only to find her a home where i know she will be loved and safe. She is the sister to her twin bother Riddick and is a wonderful dog but unfortunately my homeowners are unsure about keeping her in the home due to the damage she has done to the doors.I have raised her and riddick since they were 6 weeks old and now that she is older and hasn't matured like her brother has and has grown to be the wild child of the family. She is not aggressive or ... (Read More)mean towards other dogs or people(including children),just very hyper and very loving towards people. Kane is a wonderful animal and is the sweetest girl. With more attention and obedience training than I can provide she will be an awesome addition to the family. I am active duty military and with my husband deployed I do not feel I can give her what she needs to progress and mature and would like to provide her a home where that's capable. (Less)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Name: Melvin Age: 8 months old Breed: Australian Shepherd mix Location: Elkton, VA 22827 Weight = 37 lbs. Melvin is an Australian Shepherd mix that is a very intelligent puppy with a lot of energy. He is very affectionate, animated and agile. He has big brown eyes that will melt your heart; his tan and white coat is of moderate length, extremely soft to the touch and he has a docked tail. Melvin knows 'sit' and 'down', we are still working on 'stay'. I would recommend a basic obedience class to improve his 'on-leash' walking. He has pretty good 'recall' for such a young guy. Being an adolescent, he likes to counter surfer (we are ... (Read More)working on that) and he likes to check out the trash cans. He sleeps through the night in his crate, but we do limit his water intake after dinner. He is pretty well housebroken and will still need frequent breaks after food and water intake. He is very people friendly, but he can get over excited which results in him jumping up (but he responds well to down). He plays really well with our Aussie and like him, Melvin is very vocal, growling when playing or barking when he wants something. When we introduced him to our barn cat, he seemed to care less about her than her food. Melvin is learning to enjoy his crate, he eats in it, sleeps in it at night and goes in it if we can't watch him during the day. Being an energetic puppy, Melvin requires lots exercise to stay in shape, mentally and physically. He likes to play fetch and is learning to catch a Frisbee. He loves squeaky toys and balls. He is food motivated so he will do well with positive re-enforcement training. You still have to remind him to be gentle when taking treats from your hand. Melvin will settle in the house after adequate exercise. Due to his energy level, no children under 10 and potential adopters should have herding dog experience. He likes to be brushed and he stands to have his feet wiped. Melvin is UTD on his shots, neutered, on heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. He is a handsome boy that will be a devoted, loyal companion for anyone that has an active lifestyle. He would be a perfect prospect for agility, fly ball or Frisbee training. For additional information on Melvin, please fill out an on-line adoption application & contact his foster Mom, Tina at tinagrove@ymail.com. His adoption fee is $250.00. SOHO requires you to provide a Vet reference. If your current or past companion animals are not UTD on vaccines and Heartworm treatment you will not be considered for adoption. (Less)

I believe Rio is a bit confused and missing his previous owners and will need time and patience to adjust to his new life. Rio is around 50 lbs. Rio is good with most other dogs and is good with adult humans, he is not good with children. He ... (Read More)knows some basic commands like sit, come and down. Rio is sometimes a barker or growler, but is not aggressive and he is easily corrected and he takes correction well and a firm no will get his attention. He likes balls and in particular a larger Kong squeaky ball. Rio is not food aggressive and takes treats nicely. He likes water and the kiddie pool. PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Shepherd in Virginia
Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.

lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Virginia Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
