Rescue Me ID: 17-06-06-00313Hiro (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hiro is a 10 month old Mini Aussie. He is a very good boy however his instinct to herd and to protect his flock (us) does not mesh well with our lifestyle and we know he would do better in a home with some land where he can put his talents to use. He is weary of strangers and protective of his family so he will be most successful with a quiet lifestyle as a semi working dog. He has had some issues with territorial aggression in the past, and unfortunately we are around strangers all the time which has created a stressful environment for Hiro. He really enjoy relaxing and cuddling with his family after a days play. He is well trained and ... (Read More)knows many tricks including Stay and Heel. He's a very smart dog and deserves to be in an environment where his talents in herding and alertness will be put to good use. We would not recommend a home where there are small children or strangers around often, as he has nipped at heels and is prone to protect against people he does not know. He would also love to live in a home with another dog as he loves playing with others and is very good with dogs both big and small. He weighs about 28lbs and is very healthy and happy. We are very sad to give him up as he is very lovable but we know he deserves to thrive! (Less)

Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Utah if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.

Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks.
