Rescue Me ID: 18-06-04-00246Petula (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for ADULT dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. Also, our puppies can only be adopted to the immediate Houston vicinity as it takes 4 months to get them completely vetted at our vet here in Houston. We will not allow our dogs/puppies to be adopted out of the area without being spayed/neutered. We spay/neuter puppies at 4 months old. Hello world! My name is Petula and I am one sweet, happy pup. Like, so happy that I can't stop smiling and sometimes, when my foster mom is gone for too ... (Read More)long (ok, maybe just a few hours), I get so excited when she walks in the door that I jump up high with all four of my paws spread in the air. I can't help my cute bouncing habits.. I just love humans so much! My foster mom says that I'm great with other dogs but I don't need tons of play. I have walking stamina (sometimes we walk for miles) but I will sleep just fine with or without a ton of exercise. Running is not my favorite.. it makes it difficult to smell the flowers and give my human leg kisses. I love to be petted (back scratches? yes please!) and I will sleep on the end of your bed or happily in my crate. Luckily, I like a little space while I sleep so you won't find me trying to snuggle your face in the middle of the night. Foster mom takes me on a walk in the morning and I don't have a problem waiting until the afternoon to go outside again. I've never even had an accident in the house and like to roam around during the day. I have loved getting to know my foster mom but I just can't wait to find my forever home. I hope you'll consider choosing me as your forever pup. You should see how cute my ears are - they will perk straight up when I see you coming! If you do choose me, I promise to love you fiercely and unconditionally for all my doggie years. Yours always, Petula Petula is a Female Fox Terrier / Shepherd Mix that we estimate to be born around 5/21/2017 and weigh 23 lbs. PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/k9_angels_rescue_adoption_process.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month time frame it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted. If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. NOTE: All dogs are officially the property of K-9 Angels Rescue until they are altered by our veterinarian. Please LIKE and share our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/k9angelsrescue. (Less)

Hi, I'm Otis. I am a 7 year old Australian Shepherd. I'm a little on the smaller side weighing in at 36 pounds. I've been with my foster mom about a week and she is already so in love with me! I am about 95% house trained and will go into the kennel when asked (although I don't like to be in there forever) I ride well in the truck and hop right on up as soon as the door is open. I am not highly energetic, I really just enjoy laying in bed or on the couch with my foster mom. She says I'm super lazy (for an Aussie anyway). I am on the protective side and have a slight fear of men, but we are working on that! I get along well with most dogs, ... (Read More)even my foster mom's reactive Aussie. I feel like I would do best in a home with a single female, or an older couple who are willing to work on my fear issues and help me feel secure. A home with older children who are patient with me can be considered as well. I'm not a fan of cats. I walk well on a leash and I know sit, stay, shake and down. We are working on roll over! I'm up to date on shots, flea and heartworm medication and I am neutered. I hope you'll consider me and help me find my furever home! If you think Otis would fit your family please fill out an application at http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application His adoption fee is $325 and all proceeds go towards future rescues. Australian Shepherd    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hello, my name is Bentley! I'm a male, year and a half old, mini Australian Shepherd. I'm definitely a pretty boy, but please read my entire profile before deciding if I would be a good addition to your family. I was neglected by my original owners (left outside on a short chain with very little attention for the fist year of my life), but thankfully they surrendered me to my foster mom so I could find a better home. I'm a SUPER SWEET boy, but my original owners didn't take the time to teach me anything, so my foster mom says my manners still need some work (things like jumping when I get excited, counter surfing, and getting into the ... (Read More)trash). My foster mom is working with me, but I'll still need a patient family who is willing to take the time to teach me the new rules of the house. I'm also FULL OF ENERGY (as is the breed standard), so I'll need a family who likes to play and exercise so I'm not running around like a wild banshee with pent up energy. I absolutely love playing with my foster dog siblings and would do so 24/7 if I could. When I'm not playing, my favorite place to nap is in somebody's lap on the couch. I'm neutered, microchipped, and currently up to date on my vaccinations. If you think your family would be a good fit to be my forever family (or you have any questions), please email my foster mom and she can send you an adoption application. Maybe I'll see you soon! -Bentley (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-04-10-00031Drew (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Drew: 4 yr Male BC/Aussie Activity Level: Active Companion/Sports Diet: Raw Balanced Diet Special Talent: Fantastic Air Kiss w Hug/Up for Anything; Clicker Trained/Responsive/Whistle Responsive Training: Heavy Socialization/Positive Boundaries Experienced Dog/BC Owner Potentials Drew is the kind of Border Collie that reads your mind with his eyes, attention to body language, and wicked smart. He can be a hyper typical teenage Border Collie, who loves to work/think at home and on the leash. Cuddly with great curls and an awesome air kiss hug trick. This pup just enjoys life so much and loves to play. He is great with any training ... (Read More)incorporating it into play in the yard, on the leash, and with special toys enjoying new games. Drew is looking for an experienced dog person who understands the sensitivities of the Border Collie; lots of room to run and play; 6 foot Wooden Fence; human break during a work day. His litter came to my rescue July 4th 2014 at 4 months of age which is a prime life experience for any dog. Drew overcame a lot of fears and had some imprinting from the owner reaching/grabbing. All the 8 puppies were running free on her 3 acres in Louisiana, pretty dang scary for young herders. He is still learning about strangers and how they should approach him for the best positive experience so he can play with them and give those amazing kisses! Drew would do great in a home that can further his understanding of the world, create fun games when playing outside, enjoy taking 'working' walks/hills walks-hikes (away from sidewalk and using tricks) settling in for the day. I do feel he would benefit from another dog in his home that is on his activity level and enjoy fun BC/Aussie play or play dates with dogs he's met on leash walk. Also, he would do well with a BC experienced school age child. He crates nicely with a break during a work day, a 6 foot fence is required, and owners that follow his diet as his colon is super sensitive. All of his training/diet have been laid out for the next journey in his life! If an out of area applicant would be a potential match it is required they come to Houston to meet Drew and potentially stay a few days to further the matching process. Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Posted 12/2/17, and pictures taken on 9/1/17. Dahlia was transferred to me on 8/31/17 from the Rebel Ranch Rescue after the founder, Amy Allen, was murdered on 8/21/17. Dahlia was one of 4 dogs still there that other rescue groups chose not to take. She was scared and tried to chew the leash the first attempt to get her out of her dog pen, so a second leash was used as a muzzle. She was also hiding in a hole under her dog house. She had a male dog in the dog pen with her named Artie, who seemed to be attached to her. After being in a dog pen for about one week. I decided to start letting Dahlia and Artie out to run, and they would ... (Read More)chase each other around and then run back into the dog pen when done. Dahlia also LOVES to get in water. After another week of this, I decided to leave the gate open all the time. They eventually moved to another section of our property. Dahlia started climbing our 4 foot perimeter fence and running around the wooded area, but Artie has stayed on our property and made friends with the other dogs here, so he is not as attached to Dahlia as I first thought. Dahlia got to where she came up to me to get pet, so it was easy to catch her when she was outside our property. I put her in a small secure kennel at first with some can food, so she knew that going in that kennel meant can food when I needed to catch her again. I now have her in a secure 6 foot tall dog pen. She first found a way out through the chain link on top by getting on top of a dog house, but the chain link is now secure to the railing. She needs a lot of space to run with a tall secure fence, and a source of water to get into. It would be nice if she could get a job to do, since she is very trainable, and it might help keep her at a home. Dahlia was already spayed when transferred, and heartworm negative on 9/1/17. She is estimated to have been born around August 2013, and weighed 47.6 on 9/1/17. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-12-00321Brie (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

BIOS ARE BEING UPDATED THIS IS A VERY UNIQUE HIGH ENERGY DOG INQUIRE WITHIN Weight 25 lbs. Were you looking for a 21 month old pup that can be your entire world and trust life through your direction on the leash? That is what Brie is looking for: bright eyed playful, cuddly bouncy petite girl about 13 inches-with a soft smile and loads of charm desiring full trust in people as she aims to please is available for Foster to Adopt or Adoptive Home. She is a special treasure that was not going to allow previous fears on the leash and being confused with sounds and movements hold her back from a real life-she wants more than just playing in ... (Read More)the yard and she deserves it! Brie really LOVES balls and toys; strong desire to retrieve/give and run and herd her pack mates and that happy bark when doing so; finds so much freedom in swimming and turned into a fish like her siblings her 2nd trip to a park (in her video) at the quieter hours; jump on the couch with you and enjoy a fun chat and lap love; loves to ride in the car. Her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we may cross the street before-hand and or make a U-turn in a drive way or push on through it doing tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time all very happy-as we moved along our walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done'. It's all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park: Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment. Brie can handle activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her', progressing daily with this, and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation allowing Brie to find her true self. Brie and her sister did move from a foster to my rescue/training house at 4 months of age. This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with. Brie's adoption donation is $275. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reactio (Less)
