SWEET, SWEET little girl showed up at our house 7/5/2015. She is very gentle with kids, LOVES belly rubs and to play fetch! She seems to be good with my two male dogs as well. No aggressive behavior noticed. Don't know if she is potty trained, she has been in our backyard. We are unable to keep her and need to find her a home before 7/9/2015. We are also willing to make a donation to a rescue organization who could place her for us. We really don't want to have to take her to the shelter, but we cannot keep her. Mickayla is the spitting image of her daddy. Mickayla is intelligent, affectionate and beautiful. She is learning to sit for treats, has been potty training to paper as well as through a doggie door. Mickayla sleeps in a crate because it is her preference. Mickayla, Micah and Murdoch love their human momma and always come when they are called. Mickayla knows her name, although has puppy patience and sometimes just plain has something better to do than listen ... (Read More)to mom. Mickayla loves to be held and loves to cuddle. As busy as puppies are when they play, Mickayla never fails to come back for a kiss every once in a while. Mickayla will be high energy and will require a home and yard and a family that is energetic. Rescued from Melrose Park at 8 days old where someone was attempting to hurt momma. This litter was bottle fed and loved to pieces. They are being raised with a combination of Pomeranians and Boxers so they are fully socialized. (Less)

Health: Needs to be Neutered

This beautiful, healthy boy was dumped outside Guide Dogs of Texas. I've been keeping him with me, but my house is crammed full. He greets all the guide dog visitors with enthusiasm. He knows how to sit/down and is housebroken, but acts a bit like a teenager sometimes. He's really sweet and gets along with the guide dogs in training. He seems a little wary of men at times, but will still wag and approach. This boy is very willing and trainable. He walks without pulling, (not in any kind of formal position) and has been great about only playing with dog toys. He's calm and snuggly in the house, and very sociable. He was found intact, but will ... (Read More)be neutered. Its hard to tell from the picture, but in person its clear he's mixed with some sort of cattle dog. His fur is really soft and he has a spotted chest. I suspect he was dumped because he turned into a teenager. He's bright, very clued into speech, and could be an amazing friend for someone willing to give him a little structure and love. (Less)

Salee is the sweetest dog I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, let alone living with four more than three years. She is used to an open yard and living in a one-dog kind if household. She has had one incident with another dog in our current apartment and it is a requirement that there be no other dogs in the home. She has so much love to give and even had experience being a therapy dog. She loves people and children. Especially men. She almost never barks. Like ever. Serious inquiries only please.     We have a stray with 4 puppies that has taken residence at our office. We are trying to determine what to do with them. We really don't want them to go to a kill shelter, which seem to be the only places that will pick up. she is aggressive when around the puppies (understandable), which are under our stairs at the office, so she is barking at everyone that walks in. When she wanders away and you see her on the street, she is very sweet. We are looking for suggestions to find a place to take/rescue these pups and mom.

Rescue Me ID: 15-06-14-00621Winston (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Winston: 2.5 yr; Sex: Male; Activity Level: Companion/Active Companion; B/W Smooth Short Haired Coat; Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. Winston was a lost soul loose in Alief Houston just darting between a few streets wondering what happened to him and where did his people go. It took a team of kind Samaritans one month to earn his trust and follow them into a large fenced area so he could be rescued! Yes trust for Winston is HUGE, he does best in an apartment or condo, he prefers this living to a large house and yard. This young boy has a story that has left behind scaring on his hind legs most likely from a stake in the ground and ... (Read More)rope as he was a growing pup he must have twisted himself so badly creating these scares. Winston is now a very healthy strong boy who acts like a puppy that doesn't want to be an outside dog anymore he is actually quite happy tossing toys in the air in his fosters apartment and coming over for a kiss while she is studying; cuddling up with his BC foster sibling; his daily walks and even some light jogging; and has learned how to relax for car rides. He has totally overcome fears of when his foster mom or roommate lift their feet they are not going to kick him or push him and the same is true for any reaching of their arms or body movement. Winston has only been in Austin TX foster care for just a few months, he really has enjoyed the trust and teaching of touch and human movements from his foster; he no longer tries to flea on the leash and can walk gently now; likes to play with dogs; he can be nervous/fearful with new people and is continuing to be introduced to strangers who come to visit and take him for a walks as well. Overall this boy is gently moving forward in life awaiting his Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home. Winston is looking for a Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home that can continue this trust in the home and with people. We are uncertain of his recall for a doggie park and will be starting to evaluate that and train for fun and safety. An ideal home for Winston is an apartment or condo; a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch); children 8 and up that are gentle and appreciate a soft pup; daily walks and toy time inside the home and he is a happy pup! He is house trained, leash trained, prefers the floor to a crate. Winston's adoption donation is $275, there is an application to fill out and home visit if applicable. (Less)

Carlton's situation is unusual. We are moving overseas and need a temporary home or maybe permanent home for him. We did not know bringing our rescue along would be extremely expensive and truthfully, very unaffordable for us at this time and have found no one willing to take him on, we do not want to surrender him!! Our children love him so much and are heartbroken at the thought of leaving him behind. If after four months we are able to fly him to us overseas, we would like to have him back. If he proves to tough to give up, we are willing to let him stay at his new forever home. So in essence, this can be a foster home. He had trust ...     From the foster: Sochi is a sweetheart of a dog. She is almost 4 years old. She follows me everywhere. I'm finding out she's pretty good off leash too. That typical Aussie lead the way type walk. She knows and comes to her name. Housebroken, crate trained, spayed and up to date on shots she's ready for adoption. She's still very playful and goofy. Very strong and doesn't know it. She plays well with my dogs after proper introduction. She is a people person and does not like being left alone. She's a bit overbearing for my little Papillons, meaning she wants to play but will accidentally hurt them if she tries. She has food guarding issues. ... (Read More) If there are other dogs in the home, just feed in separate areas and she will eat in peace. She is great with females. She needs to take it slower with men and young boys. Once she's introduced and used to them she's ok but will bark and fuss if they tease her or provoke her. But of course, that should never happen. Her ideal home? A companion home with a few other dogs her size to romp around with. A dedicated person she can be with all day. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-12-00321Brie (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Brie: 10 Months; Sex: Female; Activity Level: Active Companion; B/W Rough Coated Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. Were you looking for a pup that can be your entire world and trust life through your direction on the leash? That is what Brie is looking for: bright eyed playful, cuddly bouncy petite girl about 13 inches-with a soft smile and loads of charm desiring full trust in people as she aims to please is available for Foster to Adopt or Adoptive Home. She is a special treasure that was not going to allow previous fears on the leash and being confused with sounds and movements hold her back from a real life-she wants more than ... (Read More)just playing in the yard and she deserves it! Brie really LOVES balls and toys; strong desire to retrieve/give and run and herd her pack mates and that happy bark when doing so; finds so much freedom in swimming and turned into a fish like her siblings her 2nd trip to a park (in her video) at the quieter hours; jump on the couch with you and enjoy a fun chat and lap love; loves to ride in the car. Her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we may cross the street before-hand and or make a U-turn in a drive way or push on through it doing tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time all very happy-as we moved along our walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done'. It's all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park: Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment. Brie can handle activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her', progressing daily with this, and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation allowing Brie to find her true self. Brie and her sister did move from a foster to my rescue/training house at 4 months of age. This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with. Brie's adoption donation is $275. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction (Less)

Meet Tip, available for Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home, with his traditional b/w markings, sense of quirky fun and humor in life with eager attentiveness waiting for your direction of 'what's next'. He is a visual boy with interpretive eyes that enjoys lots of interactivity, a fun hug once he knew it was called Love and the kiss command, yes he is motivated on the leash enjoying fast walks with some jogging (can make him hyper) and running up and down ... (Read More)hills on hikes and bike path trail walks just like a good TX cowboy enjoying all that life has to offer. He really likes to swim and turned into a fish like his siblings his 2nd trip to a park; enjoys to be in the car watching out the window; at the end of a long day Tip can settle next to me for a movie; and of course he is a ball and toy boy. Tip shows strong herding traits with his herding stance and moves that his BC pack mates enjoy during the games of chase and herd. He has a wonderful innate sense with dogs and he loves to play with like-minded dogs; fast and fun on the leash he enjoys doing tricks with the clicker and has taught himself shake with those big fun pawz. Tip is very curious about life, might make a great bike a long candidate; loves hike trails; very eager to please and always at eager attentive with his human. Tip is a quirky and expressive pup, he still learning about trust with strangers and enjoying his socialization lessons in real world environments. He knows if I ask 'show mommy' he has something maybe he should not, he steps back and waits for me to see or drops it-really nice to have such a respectful youth! Fortunate for Tip and his littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation of trust and understanding allowing Tip to find his true self. This was an accidental litter from Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet and quality kibble. An ideal home for him would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; great fun exercise in AM and PM and a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch); an excited human partner to enjoy life with; having his human and pup pack to bond with and enjoy. Tip's adoption donation is $325. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. He is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ****I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus Tip's training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises. Leash trained in scenic social human and pup neighborhoods; historic areas of Houston for stimulation within a city; walking trails and bike trails; mini hike in areas that are socially oriented but also very peaceful; running errands with me and carpooling with another dog learning patience in the car and wait for the one on one lessons; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction; using the curious nature to enjoy all the smells at pet store and feel positive at the vets office.****** (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-24-00117Ally (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Ally is a female shepherd mix probably born in August 2012. She weighs a bit less than 45 pounds. Ally is heartworm negative, on preventive, has been spayed, and is up to date on all her vaccinations. Ally is a playful, athletic, smart, highly trainable young girl that adores people that she knows. She is also anxious from being in a shelter off and on since July 2014. A home without other pets, and without too much excitement would be best for Ally at this point. She was in a foster home for a medical issue in August 2014, and did well. Ally shared the house with another dog. She did growl twice while being sniffed, but backed off ... (Read More)immediately with a single verbal correction. When returned to the shelter, Ally spent six weeks in a small wire bottom crate, a difficult thing for an intelligent dog. She was adopted out to a home with another dog, introduced poorly, and returned. She is back with the previous foster home now, and is again learning to walk with as well as ignore other dogs. Ally is not dog aggressive: when you are walking her on a leash she tolerates being followed closely, and will hold a sit while being circled. She is anxious, not aggressive, but the line between anxious and reactive is a close one. Again, Ally is best served by being an only pet in a quiet home. Other than working through kennel stress and anxiety issues, Ally has a shepherd personality. She loves, and needs, daily sessions of fetch, obedience, or walking. Ally will do anything for a treat, and is not a finicky eater. Ally prefers to sit on a couch on the floor near you. And, after a while, find a tennis ball and drop it at your feet. If you are looking for a smart, loyal, loving companion, and can give Ally the safety of a good home where she can at last relax, please consider adopting her. Ally is 100% house trained. She is crate trained as well, and currently sleeps in her crate at night as well as when her fosters are away. If you are interested in providing a loving home to this pet please complete the L.A.P. application http://www.laprescue.org/adoption-application.html or email us at LapRescue@gmail.com Local area adoptions only. Home visits required. Even if you can't give me a home you can still help by making a donation to help with my care. Any amount you can spare will be sincerely appreciated. Thank You. (Less)

I learned to go in my crate the first day in my foster home. My foster sisters showed me where to go potty, and I picked that up instantly. I let my foster mom know if I need to go outside. Day 2, I learned down in 5 minutes. I walk nicely on a leash and am learning heel; Amira; means princess, but I'm not the least bit haughty. In fact, I'm very submissive. I'm likely to introduce myself to you by bumping my rear end into your leg and smiling at you over my tail, ... (Read More)even if it means wacking myself in the face repeatedly. I'd probably chase a cat but only 'cause I love to play and give kisses. Do you see the picture of me at the nursing home? Some of the residents couldn't speak, but I let them pet me and they all smiled.     My name is Morgan and I'm a Siberian Husky mix being fostered in Houston, TX! I am a 57 lb, black and white, 3.5 year old, microchipped, neutered male. I have one brown eye and one blue eye. My fur is very silky and soft! BTW I love being brushed! I am up on all my shots. My favorite activities are going for walks and car rides. I LOVE to stick my head out the car window and feel the breeze flowing thru my fur - awesome!!!! I also like going to doggie daycare and getting belly rubs from my foster mom! Rub here - - That's the spot - - Yes!!! My foster mom and I are working on basic commands like sit, stay, come. I am house trained and I ... (Read More)know how to use a doggie door. I am working on kennel training - I don't like that too much except for the treats and food that are in there. I kind of get easily distracted when learning so I don't remember to do everything right all the time. But I can promise you that we will both have fun trying to learn - Squirrel!! I like other dogs as long as they listen to me. I have alpha tendencies but as long as you don't keep bothering me when I'm resting or posturing then we'll be ok. I haven't been introduced to cats or kids yet. My mom thinks someone with a big yard and who is looking for a walking or hiking companion would be great for me! She also thinks that a 'Husky Savy' owner would be a nice bonus. (Less)
