Rescue Me ID: 15-05-22-00343Kincaid (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kincaid immediately became a volunteer favorite. He is calm, gentle, and just a delight. His rescuers sang his praises about his fabulous temperament. Kincaid is fine with a cat, loves to walk on a leash, and has no problem with other dogs. He loves to be brushed. He doesn't request to go outside but seems to be house trained when let out regularly. Good-Hearted - is how his rescuer described him. So how did this perfect dog end up in a shelter? Kincaid does have one flaw or skill (depending on how you look at it). He can push under or dig a little to get through or under a fence. Neither at the shelter or at the rescuers home did he try to ... (Read More)run away, but he is a bit of an escape artist. Maybe he just wants to stay in the house. (Less)

He received his shots, was cleaned up and tested heartworm negative. He is about 8 mos old and clearly has some border collie. He is welcome to stay and recover with my pack but needs a forever home. He is skinny but I will take care of that quickly.

Freckles is about a year old and a purebred Texan Shepherd (there's really no such thing but his colors match leather so he goes with everything!). He is a beautiful dog with a gorgeous tri-color coat. This medium sized dog is a bundle of energy who loves to play and give kisses. He is great with kids and he could play with them for hours. He is great with most dogs but he takes longer to warm up to bigger dogs. This gorgeous Texan dog is great on a leash and is trying to learn new tricks! He is dedicated and loyal - proof being that he stayed on the corner of a busy street where he was left for 3 weeks waiting for someone to come back and ... (Read More)get him. Australian Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chip has been a great dog for our family. He is loyal and protective. We recently moved to the country where he is allowed to roam free. The problem is he is attacking and biting delivery and service men who come to our home. We have a lot of children who come to our house and we don't want to take the chance of one of them being bitten. We have tried to contain him but he has learned to dig out. We really don't want him to have to be tied down or locked in our small fenced area. He would be great for an older couple or someone who does not have a lot of visitors to their home.

Louis is an eight month old aussie/blue heeler mix. Due to unfortunate circumstances in our personal lives we can't afford to care for him anymore. Looking for a good home and we will keep until we find it! Louie is house trained and kennel trained. When he was 7 weeks old we did the 6 week puppy course at petsmart. He was born September 28, 2014. His mom was full aussie and his dad was a aussie blue heeler mix. He looks like an aussie though. Neither parent ... Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only.  Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Hello, My name is Alecia Milliken. I live in Garland, Texas. I recently adopted Zippo from the Garland Animal Shelter. They were having a St. Patrick's Day special that week for $17 fee.Which included the exam, shots, and nuerter. His nueter surgery is not until May 5th. He has had all his shots. They said he was about 2-3 years old. In February I also rescued a Yorkie off of Craiglist. She was crated 10 hours a day and terribly matted. So I payed the $75 rehoming fee to save her. Knowing that I would only be able foster her, get her healthy, and contact a rescue. Which I did through Yorkie Haven Rescue. Had her shots, and micro chipped, ... (Read More)and groomed. I worked on her social skills and trained her to do some tricks. Although it was hard to give her up, I knew it was best for her. They were amazing and she is now with a foster who also has a yorkie. She has sent pictures of her, and renamed her Stella. So I assume, and pray that she will be keeping her. Now I have more time with Zippo until he is nuerterd on May 5th. I took him to AHR vet in Rowlett to have blood work done and heartworm check and also to see why he was favoring his back leg. The vet said it was his ACL. Gave him carprofen and tramadol. Within a week he was running and playing. He is very sweet, minds well, goes potty outside. Taught him to sit stay and shake so far. He is very protective. I want him to have a home where he can run and play in a home with acreage. He loves the cats and is very laid back with them. He and the Yorkie were best buddies. Can you help me to find him the ideal home? Thank you for your time. God Bless. Alecia Milliken 469-343-2492 bigbearsandwich1965@gmail.com (Less)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

From the foster: Sochi is a sweetheart of a dog. She is almost 4 years old. She follows me everywhere. I'm finding out she's pretty good off leash too. That typical Aussie lead the way type walk. She knows and comes to her name. Housebroken, crate trained, spayed and up to date on shots she's ready for adoption. She's still very playful and goofy. Very strong and doesn't know it. She plays well with my dogs after proper introduction. She is a people person and does not like being left alone. She's a bit overbearing for my little Papillons, meaning she wants to play but will accidentally hurt them if she tries. She has food guarding issues. ... (Read More) If there are other dogs in the home, just feed in separate areas and she will eat in peace. She is great with females. She needs to take it slower with men and young boys. Once she's introduced and used to them she's ok but will bark and fuss if they tease her or provoke her. But of course, that should never happen. Her ideal home? A companion home with a few other dogs her size to romp around with. A dedicated person she can be with all day. Ranch or just large yard would be good. http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/asf-adoption-application.html (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-14-00023Winston (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Winston: 8 months-1 yr; Activity Level: Companion/Active Companion; B/W Smooth Short Haired Coat; Border Collie possibly w Aussie. Winston was a pup on the loose in Alief Houston just darting between a few streets where he obviously was left behind. It took a team of kind people one month to earn his trust and follow them into a large fenced area so he could be rescued! Yes trust for Winston is HUGE, he does best in an apartment or condo-less space for him to be nervous and anticipate any expectations from people. This pup has a story that has left behind scaring on his hind legs most likely from a stake in the ground and rope as he was ... (Read More)a growing puppy he must have twisted himself so badly creating these scares and some laxity in his hind legs that we are rebuilding through diet and supplementation. Winston doesn't want to be an outside dog anymore he is actually quite happy tossing toys in the air in his fosters apartment and coming over for a kiss while she is studying; cuddling up with his BC foster sibling; his daily walks and even some light jogging; and has learned how to relax for car rides. He has totally overcome fears of when his foster mom or roommate lift their feet they are not going to kick him or push him and the same is true for any reaching of their arms or body movement. Winston has only been in foster care for just a few months, he really has enjoyed the trust and teaching of touch and human movements from his foster; he no longer tries to flea on the leash and can walk gently now; likes to play with dogs; and has been introduced to strangers who come to visit and take him for a walks as well. Overall this boy is gently moving forward in life. Winston is looking for a Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home that can continue this trust in the home and with people. We are uncertain of his recall for a doggie park and will be starting to evaluate that and train for fun and safety. An ideal home for Winston is an apartment or condo; a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch); children 6 and up that are gentle and appreciate a soft pup; daily walks and toy time inside the home and he is a happy pup! He is house trained, leash trained, prefers the floor to a crate, will be neutered when he is stronger in his hind legs within rescue vetting services $300 adoption donation or on a neuter contract $225. There is an application to fill out and home visit if applicable. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-12-00321Brie (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Brie: 10 Months; Sex: Female; Activity Level: Active Companion; B/W Rough Coated Border Collie/Aussie; Weight 30 lbs. Were you looking for a pup that can be your entire world and trust life through your direction on the leash? That is what Brie is looking for: bright eyed playful, cuddly bouncy petite girl about 13 inches-with a soft smile and loads of charm desiring full trust in people as she aims to please is available for Foster to Adopt or Adoptive Home. She is a special treasure that was not going to allow previous fears on the leash and being confused with sounds and movements hold her back from a real life-she wants more than ... (Read More)just playing in the yard and she deserves it! Brie really LOVES balls and toys; strong desire to retrieve/give and run and herd her pack mates and that happy bark when doing so; finds so much freedom in swimming and turned into a fish like her siblings her 2nd trip to a park (in her video) at the quieter hours; jump on the couch with you and enjoy a fun chat and lap love; loves to ride in the car. Her leash life lessons have been stunted from fears in early puppy stages and her life before rescue amplifying her sound sensitivity and reaction to movements. Remember she is a herder these traits are so true for the breed. For me I love to earn undivided trust through the leash and that is what Brie is getting and she is gaining a confident foundation to her lessons. Example of a lesson: Brie can now start her walk right out my door (unless too much activity then we drive), using the clicker to mark positive behavior and calm she also does down and recall other tricks on the leash to keep the focus. If there is activity in front of us we may cross the street before-hand and or make a U-turn in a drive way or push on through it doing tricks keeping a steady calm nature for Brie and identify what we see and move on so as not to fixate on fear of unknown variables. Example: on a walk there was a loose Schnauzer out front of its house, she loves dogs of course, and I went over with her about ringing the doorbell for the puppy and it's mommy may talk to us, she was very calm and there were no other outside factors at that time all very happy-as we moved along our walk two people came around a corner a bit unexpected she got scared but worked with me and the command is 'done'. It's all about the trust down the leash for Brie. 2/9 Example: Quiet trail walk at Sugarland Memorial Park: Brie did great with the big lawn mowers doing tricks for focus and calm, saw a jogger fear barked as he was 'coming at us' then she wanted to herd him!, did great with me talking to someone from a distance and let me know she was ready to move on. I am highly observant of our environment to anticipate anything necessary creating a positive and safe environment. Brie can handle activity on the street and it's important for her to have this but if it's too much at once, or right in front of her she feels threatened possibly boxed it like it's coming 'at her', progressing daily with this, and cars used to scare her so much just the vibration she was in total fear of being injured. She is looking for someone who works from home that has the time to dedicate to more lessons for a healthy living; an approved trainer maybe needed to continue this work in her environment please be aware of the commitment you are making to her. Fortunate for Brie and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation allowing Brie to find her true self. Brie and her sister did move from a foster to my rescue/training house at 4 months of age. This was an accidental litter Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition she has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet along and quality kibble. An ideal home for her would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; a dedicated human partner to enjoy life with; having her human and pup pack to bond with. Brie's adoption donation is $275. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. She is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ******I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction (Less)

Katey will dance on her hind legs for a treat or your gloves her favorite thing to steal of mine lol! She gives gentle kisses but when she is excited it's time to play some ... (Read More)ball/take a walk and then go watch a movie or snuggle. She is very light on her feet and makes great turns weather playing ball with me or games of chase with another herder in the home-excellent candidate for fly ball or similar fun at home. She is very eager on leash and likes this as great focus type 'job' of course with a few tricks to go along; very attentive to my footing which is great on a hike; redirects easily; she is highly interested about bicycles might be a fun path for her. Katey is a highly trainable girl that is becoming very social to strangers enjoying the praise and seeking out positive energy; has an innate sense with dogs and she loves to play with dogs; very biddable eager to please; took to swimming at a park like a fish on her first trip and of course she really loves her ball and toys! She is a sensitive girl and it's important for her to show you different ways that mean the same thing but work better for her. A toy basket would make this pup feel like a queen. Fortunate for Katey and her littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation of trust allowing Katey to find her true self. Tip is a quirky and expressive pup, he still learning about trust with strangers and enjoying his socialization lessons in real world environments. He knows if I ask 'show mommy' he has something maybe he should not, he steps back and waits for me to see or drops it-really nice to have such a respectful youth! Fortunate for Tip and his littermates I was able make a full commitment at 11 weeks of age building a foundation of trust and understanding allowing Tip to find his true self. This was an accidental litter from Border Collie mom and Aussie dad surrendered to rescue. Coming from a rural raising with limited human interaction things in the world are still new and take time to learn and trust. With my desire to build a strong physical foundation and the lack of proper nutrition has been on a raw meat/fresh veggies diet and quality kibble. An ideal home for him would have some quiet between neighbors; fence is mandatory and no apartments or condos; children 10 and up only as this can be too intense to this Border Collie; great fun exercise in AM and PM and a human interactive break during a long work day (dog walker/home for lunch); an excited human partner to enjoy life with; having his human and pup pack to bond with and enjoy. Tip's adoption donation is $275 on neuter contract or $325 neutered @11 months. There is an application to adopt and home visit where applicable. He is crate/house trained; fully vetted/chipped/on preventative, clicker and enjoys whistle training. ****I believe you have to see the world as a dog does and thus Tip's training began at home on all the new and unknown variables through identification, clicker and positive food motivated exercises. Leash trained in scenic social human and pup neighborhoods; historic areas of Houston for stimulation within a city; walking trails and bike trails; mini hike in areas that are socially oriented but also very peaceful; running errands with me and carpooling with another dog learning patience in the car and wait for the one on one lessons; learning redirection to sounds and stimuli in the yard/home and life on the leash; coached on dog interactions to strengthen the leadership skills; working through all fears in the home and on the leash using the clicker method to achieve a healthy action/reaction; using the curious nature to enjoy all the smells at pet store and feel positive at the vets office.****** (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-12-24-00117Ally (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Ally is a female shepherd mix probably born in August 2012. She weighs a bit less than 45 pounds. Ally is heartworm negative, on preventive, has been spayed, and is up to date on all her vaccinations. Ally is a playful, athletic, smart, highly trainable young girl that adores people that she knows. She is also anxious from being in a shelter off and on since July 2014. A home without other pets, and without too much excitement would be best for Ally at this point. She was in a foster home for a medical issue in August 2014, and did well. Ally shared the house with another dog. She did growl twice while being sniffed, but backed off ... (Read More)immediately with a single verbal correction. When returned to the shelter, Ally spent six weeks in a small wire bottom crate, a difficult thing for an intelligent dog. She was adopted out to a home with another dog, introduced poorly, and returned. She is back with the previous foster home now, and is again learning to walk with as well as ignore other dogs. Ally is not dog aggressive: when you are walking her on a leash she tolerates being followed closely, and will hold a sit while being circled. She is anxious, not aggressive, but the line between anxious and reactive is a close one. Again, Ally is best served by being an only pet in a quiet home. Other than working through kennel stress and anxiety issues, Ally has a shepherd personality. She loves, and needs, daily sessions of fetch, obedience, or walking. Ally will do anything for a treat, and is not a finicky eater. Ally prefers to sit on a couch on the floor near you. And, after a while, find a tennis ball and drop it at your feet. If you are looking for a smart, loyal, loving companion, and can give Ally the safety of a good home where she can at last relax, please consider adopting her. Ally is 100% house trained. She is crate trained as well, and currently sleeps in her crate at night as well as when her fosters are away. If you are interested in providing a loving home to this pet please complete the L.A.P. application http://www.laprescue.org/adoption-application.html or email us at LapRescue@gmail.com Local area adoptions only. Home visits required. Even if you can't give me a home you can still help by making a donation to help with my care. Any amount you can spare will be sincerely appreciated. Thank You. (Less)

Valentino is 1 of 9 puppies. The other 7 have found wonderful homes but him and his sister April are still looking. I rescued his mom from under a bridge. 5 days after the momma's rescue she gave me 9 adorable puppies. They were born on April 1st, 2014 and Valentino was the 5th born. They are inside dogs, can go outside to play in a fenced secure yard but I don't want them living outside. Home check and vet check required.

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Morgan and I'm a Siberian Husky mix being fostered in Houston, TX! I am a 57 lb, black and white, 3.5 year old, microchipped, neutered male. I have one brown eye and one blue eye. My fur is very silky and soft! BTW I love being brushed! I am up on all my shots. My favorite activities are going for walks and car rides. I LOVE to stick my head out the car window and feel the breeze flowing thru my fur - awesome!!!! I also like going to doggie daycare and getting belly rubs from my foster mom! Rub here - - That's the spot - - Yes!!! My foster mom and I are working on basic commands like sit, stay, come. I am house trained and I ... (Read More)know how to use a doggie door. I am working on kennel training - I don't like that too much except for the treats and food that are in there. I kind of get easily distracted when learning so I don't remember to do everything right all the time. But I can promise you that we will both have fun trying to learn - Squirrel!! I like other dogs as long as they listen to me. I have alpha tendencies but as long as you don't keep bothering me when I'm resting or posturing then we'll be ok. I haven't been introduced to cats or kids yet. My mom thinks someone with a big yard and who is looking for a walking or hiking companion would be great for me! She also thinks that a 'Husky Savy' owner would be a nice bonus. (Less)
