Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Loving, high energy 8 year old Australian shepherd mix. Always happy, very, very soft. Not great with kids, tries to 'herd' them. We have a toddler and another on the way, and unfortunately he is not a great fit for our growing family. Does not need crated, totally house broken, has never had an accident. Knows lots of tricks. Stays in our yard, we have never had to fence, but we are far off of a main road. Looking for a good home without small children. Thank you!

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-08-00527Pacino (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Pacino is a sweet puppy... We have had him two years and we love him dearly. My daughter has allergies that have become progressively worse and now has an epipen. I just can't keep him anymore. When we got him, he had been with a couple for a year. They had gotten a puppy and had a baby at the same time. The baby won out. Though I don't think he was abused, I believe the man was not nice to him. He is very loyal and very protective of his kids. He has a brother ( a Chihuahua mix) and they are best friends. He was weaned to early and so he suckles on a blanket. He will not go to bed at night until everyone is safely upstairs and then he ... (Read More)guards the bedroom door. He loves attention. He even gets into the tub by himself for a bath. Every night he joins the kids and I for prayer time; he lays on my daughter and places his paw on my hand. I will require references from vet as he is very special to us and I don't want him to go to a bad place. (Less)

Animal ID: ShellyShelly (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Shelly is a sweet dog with some sort of unknown trauma in her past. Physically, she's fine and healthy. Mentally, she needs someone who's patient and kind to help bring her out of her shell. She's solidly housebroken and nondestructive. She's nervous around new dogs but her foster mom can settle her in with them fairly quickly and will show you how to do that if you adopt her. She's nervous around new people and it takes her longer to adapt to new humans, so she's not a suitable match for someone who has a large family, lots of parties, or wants to take their dog everywhere. ... (Read More)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Once she knows and trusts you, she's a fabulous dog. Great watchdog. Loves to sleep on her loveseat at night but is also willing to sleep in bed with you if you offer her the opportunity. She has the softest coat ever and loves to be touched. She loves to communicate with her human via a combined chorus of barks, warbles, and body languages and she absolutely loves a human who chooses to interact and learn her communication methods. She's looking for a tight bond with a dog whisperer type of human a la Victoria Stillwell. (Look her up, she's fabulous.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shelly cannot live with cats. They're just too overstimulating for her and she's just too annoying for them. So we're also going with no small furries or feathered friends in her adoptive home. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- She loves toys, especially squeak toys. Shelly is middle aged and weighs 42 lb. She's medium energy, needing a good romp around the yard once or twice a day but then settles down nicely indoors. She also enjoys long walks. She doesn't get carsick but does pace a bit nervously on short car rides. On longer rides she eventually settles down and naps. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We're seeking an adults-only home for Shelly. Due to her communicative nature, she's not suitable for condos, townhomes, or apartments. Single family homes only please. Fenced yard preferred so she can do her yard zoomies game. She loves that. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We've had Shelly for awhile and know her very well. If you'd like to ask questions about her before submitting an application, feel free to email us. She has an unusual personality but we think she's worth the effort it takes to get to know her. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you live in the Lehigh Valley PA area, a local trainer near Easton PA/Phillipsburg NJ has offered free obedience classes to Shelly's adopters. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ADOPTION APPLICATION: http://form.jotform.us/form/41555257797165 (Less)

lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Pennsylvania Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
