Rescue Me ID: 16-12-06-00203Boomer (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Boomer is a 4 year old, 40lb Australian Shepherd mix. She is a very sweet girl who loves a good belly rub. Her favorite activities are playing fetch for treats, tugging on a rope or toy and going on short jogs. She is fairly low energy for an Aussie, requiring either one or two good ball sessions a day or a 2 mile walk/run. She does enjoy a long walk every few days. She sleeps in her crate and is potty trained, able to hold it while we are at work for 10+ hours. She loves learning new tricks and is very highly food motivated. She lives with our cat and they occasionally play together. She wants to find a home with a fenced in back yard ... (Read More)with no children or dogs. She has some nervousness around large moving objects (like brooms and boxes, not cars) and some fear of dogs and strangers. An experienced dog owner is required as she will needs continual training to keep her happy and stimulated. We are happy to answer any questions and don't mind spending some time making sure she is the best fit for you! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-23-00144CHUCK (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Hi! I'm 'CHUCK'! A handsome, fun loving, playful 1.5 yr old, 50-60 lb. pooch that was saved from a very 'high-kill' pound. I can play hard with other dogs yet be a lapdog and snuggle with my foster mom when I need downtime! My foster mom says I am so 'lovable'; maybe shes biased!? When I've had a bad day, I love to jump up for hugs. My foster mom could see I had a lot of energy, probably because I'm a working breed, and I would do great with someone who can take me out to really stretch my legs for long walks, maybe jogs or just had a lot of land I could run around on. I think it would be great if I could have someone who has a little ... (Read More)time and patience to work with me on my skills!I play really well with other dogs! My foster home had three other dogs and oh my gosh I had so much fun! I guess I'm kinda handsome seeing that the two females really liked me! Not that I'm bragging ... I even got along with the ALPHA female dog and boy was she a toughie! I do love cats/kittens but maybe a little too much? I got a little too excited when I saw them. I would never hurt them but they were funny little creatures that would run when I saw them so I thought they were playmates to chase! I am a good, sweet, gentle boy that never had 'an accident' in my foster home. Chuck was on the 'euth' list due to shelter overcrowding and being tested early stage 'heart worm positive'. He was slight/early onset heart worm positive, and underwent the 'fast kill' treatment (which the rescue provided) and is now ready to find his forever home! Chuck is current on vaccinations, house-trained, crate-trained and on monthly heart-worm preventative (which he will need to be e for the remainder of his natural life. He is listed still as heart-worm positive because for 6 months after the fast kill treatment, his blood work will still potentially register 'positive, His last treatment was early August 2016). All of our rescued dogs have been on a nutritional regime which includes high quality food and supplements (ex., pro-biotics; vitamins, etc). This is done to bolster their immune systems and overall health; the result benefits their adoptive family with a pooch who has a lustrous coat, bright shiny eyes, and happy and healthy disposition.     Very loving, energetic and kid friendly pet. Had 2 years. She is only in need of one get visit for nail care, and flea pill every 3 months. I love in a very small apartment after losing our house..the loss of space has created an anxiety issue..where she digs at her skin. She was used to a lot of land. She is fantastic with children. And very loving..I absolutely hate leaving her. My job leaves me away for 14 he's some days. She needs a lot of space and love.she comes to you without leash and is trained to budge her leash when going out side. Zero accidents in the home ever.

Rescue Me ID: 16-09-06-00260Sugarbear (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sugarbear has been our dog for three years. He is very loyal and loving to his family, but an unpredictable biter to those he doesn't know or who happen onto our property. We really love him, but do not have time to train the biting out of him, and not sure it could be. He needs somewhere to run, preferably in the country, without a lot of visitors. He is a beautiful white furred and blue eyed shepherd. He has trouble seeing out of his left eye, and has frequent ear infections if not on a wheat free diet. I will have to put him down by the end of the week.

Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
