Animal ID: 1337Pookie (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pookie is a beautiful, energetic, and sweet dog! He is 5 %BD years old, is up-to-date on all vaccinations, and is neutered. He is completely house-trained and crate-trained (though he prefers to be with you if you are home). We don't know anything about Pookie's previous owner. We noticed Pookie's teeth were worn down drastically, so we think he came from a place that chained him outside or kept him cooped up and this is the result of him trying to gnaw his way out. When Pookie came from us from the shelter, he was heartworm positive, defensive, and untrusting. However, a lot has changed since we first met Pookie! Pookie is now full of ... (Read More)love and energy and trusts us completely. He went through a 2-month heartworm treatment. We're still working on some of his manners, but he is a very intelligent dog and we suspect he will continue to learn quickly! Pookie has gotten much better with resource guarding (food, water, rawhides) since we first brought him home. After a lot of trust-building, he now listens when we tell him to 'leave it.' Pookie was around 75-80 pounds when we got him from the shelter- he did gain some weight while being confined to his crate during his heartworm treatment, but we are working to get this back down with increased activity J Pookie appears to be a very 'family unit' type of dog. He is very loving and trusting of us, but is always suspicious of strangers. Strangers are introduced in the house while he is crated, then we just leave him alone until he watches us interact with them over time. We do not know how he is with children, so we don't think he should go to a family with a young child. He is very food motivated, so treats and cookies will help him learn to trust you and others. We are continually working on socializing him with other dogs he meets. He loves to play with our little dog Dawson, but is guarded around strange dogs.Pookie would do well in a family without another dog, or with a dog that is passive. This will take patience on the adopter's end- it took about 2 months before Pookie wanted anything to do with our dog, but now they are best friends! Pookie loves to go outside. Because we don't have a fenced-in yard, we make sure to take him walking/jogging every day to get his energy out. He absolutely has a herding instinct, as he always wants to chase rabbits, squirrels, and birds. We have also noticed that Pookie likes to chase/herd cars. We are continually trying to break him of this, however, we think Pookie would do best in a home out of the city that is away from heavy-traffic areas. Because we don't know how Pookie does off-leash in an open area, we prefer his future home to have a large, fenced-in yard he can run around and play in! He has LOADS of energy! His absolutely favorite thing in the world is to be brushed. If you bring a brush out he will follow you to wherever you go and jump and wait for you to brush him. You could brush him while he lies on his back for an hour and he would never move! Pookie's furever home should be patient with him, as he will take a while to open up and trust you. Once he does, you will find a loving dog that just wants to lay on the bed with you and be given some love! If you think that Pookie would be a fit for your family please fill out an application at http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application His adoption fee will be $325 (Less)

Animal ID: 1531Tamzin (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Tamzin is a very sweet energetic Aussie mix that absolutely loves people and she is in search of her forever home. Since bringing Tamzin into our home we have really watched her come out of her shell. She has gone from a dog that would cower and shake at even the slightest sudden sound to a sweet energetic dog that loves to play and absolutely adores her people. In fact one of her favourite things now is to give hugs. Tamzin is shy when she first meets someone but once she gets to know you she is the true definition of a velcro dog. The only thing that we haven't been able to work her through is her fear of other dog's. Unfortunately we ... (Read More)don't know what her past was like or what could have happened to her to give her this fear but as a result of it Tamzin's future home will have to be one without other dog's and no cats. Tamzin is very smart and she is taking to basic obedience well. She is also house and crate trained. She is estimated to be between 3-4 years old and weighs 40lbs If you think Tamzin will fit your family please fill out an application at http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application Her adoption fee is $295 and all proceeds go towards future rescues. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-07-00202Bear (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Bear is a 45 lb 2 year old lab/Australian Sheppard mix. We adopted him at eight weeks old from the Humane Society in Greenville South Carolina. The only reason we are rehoming him is because we have an older small dog which he has attacked on several occasions as he gets older. We thought we could get him some help but unfortunately- it's not working out. Bear is a loving soul that loves his people and loves to play ball. We have had the privilege of caring him and are heartbroken we have to rehome him. He would do best with older children or a household with no small children. We have children 9 yrs + BUT we wouldn't want to chance by ... (Read More)saying he could be good being climbed over and poked and prodded by a toddler. He loves to be close to those he loves and he doesn't want to share that with another animal. He has shown some resource guarding when around other animals too. We want him to go to a loving home and to someone who can really be active and give him lots of attention. Bear is an inside dog and wants to be apart of the family. He will come with his create, toys, blankets and bones. We are offering 6 months of healthcare and dog food to his new owners and home. We would love for Bear to still be apart of our lives and hoped we could find someone who would allow us to see him throughout the years and provide pictures and updates. Also we would take Bear back if his new home didn't work out for any reason.... (Less)

Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
