Rescue Me ID: 14-08-16-00170Scout (male)
Must find a new loving home for our Australian Shepherd, Scout. He is very intelligent, trained to sit, give howdy, lay down, off, and walks well on a leash. Rescued him from the animal shelter at about 4 months old where he had been picked up wth a collar embedded deep in his neck and his mouth and throat so lacerated that the vet thought he might not live. He is probably 3 years old now, vaccines are current. Our problem: His herding instinct (like many Aussies) is very strong, and for some reason he feels threatened by small children. We have successfully taught our 7 yr old commands and actions to use in situations when the dog becomes agressive toward him, but living in a neighborhood with small children around frequently just isn't the best environment for him considering his breed. We want to do the right thing for the dog AND the right thing for our neighbors. It breaks my heart to hve to find him a new home but, Scout desperately needs a home with no small children (he has been fine with age 10 and up) and some land where he can use up the energy of his herding dog breed constructively. He is such a loyal companion and very protective. I really don't want to give him away because he's a fabulous dog for an adult, he's affectionate, and so smart. He just needs to not be around small children because he will growl and nip, that just does work in a neighborhood. I'm afraid that if we do not find a new home for him very soon we are going to have to ... please help so I don't have to take him to the animal shelter! (Less)

eight year old sweet Aussie is my boy. I also had his Father. He is the sweetest dog with adults, smart, full of energy, all he wants is a ball thrown to him and to be able to run. PJ is like a persona. You can take him just about anywhere. He just does not like a few little dogs. Everyone loves him when I take him out with me and he is so well behaved. I relocated to Charlotte for a job that requires a lot of travel. In addition, the HOA has kicked him out due to a mix up with a small, little dog! And, it is not fair to him that he is in a condo and he cannot run like he used to do at my old place. He loves me, but, he has been pretty miserable. I am in serious need of a good home immediately for him. I have him boarded. I had a home for him, but they just backed out. Please help. Thank you. (Less)

Liver and white Aussie needs a job! Extremely smart but needs training and discipline. Good dog for someone who has the time and energy. Loyal to owner, but does not like strangers. Very sensitive and reacts to people that he fears or he feels may be threatening to owner. If you are a dog lover and understand the Aussie breed, Wade would make you a great companion.

Milly is a very good dog. She needs lots of space to run. We are moving and cannot take her. She takes a minute to acclimate but then she's a good dog. Shouldn't be around very young children her size. She's excellent with my 8 yr old granddaughter. She needs very much to be in the country. She was raised on 60 acres. She loves to run free and herd. All vacs except rabies.

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-18-00231Callie (female)
[Read About Natural Seizure Care] We are located in Concord, NC (near Charlotte, NC) and are willing to travel a reasonable distance to bring her to a new loving home or facility that will be able to help her! Callie is a 7 year old Australian Shepherd. We adopted her as a puppy. She has always been nervous around strangers but her nervousness has turned into some stranger aggression over the years. She is territorial with other dogs and protective over her owners. When boarded at a kennel, Callie has never bitten or been aggressive to workers but does exhibit cage aggression. Callie has never bitten anyone. We have two small children and have decided it is best for all involved if we relocate Callie to a new home. Her new home needs to be free of children, have lots of opportunities for exercise, and an most importantly have an owner who will be patient in earning her trust and working with her issues. Callie's breed is a working dog so she does well when she feels she has a job to do. Callie has randomly occurring seizures. She will have a seizure once every 2-3 (+) months. She has been seen by a vet a couple years back and the vet did not see fit for medication since the seizures are not consistent. Callie has also had a benign growth removed twice from one of her paws. We HOPE you can help. This is sad for us but we know that it is for the best. We are trying to avoid bringing her back to a shelter for her health and to remove the risk of being euthanized. PLEASE HELP if you are able! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-05-30-00490Marley (male)
Meet Marley, He is a young 7 months old Boarder Collie blend. He weighs about 40 lbs. He is a very sweet dog, he loves attention, he is eager for belly rubs and pets. He likes to give hugs and kisses. He is up to date on shots, he is heart worm negative, he has been de wormed, neutered, and he is microchiped. Marley does not have much in the way of manners,BUT he will go through basic obedience with our trainers and we will start him on his hand signals training. He really is a super sweet boy and deserves a second chance at a GREAT life. All he wants is to be a part of a family. We do not recommend a family with very young children. (He has shown NO aggression whatsoever, but small children and deaf doggies are a potential incident waiting to happen). That's not to say that anything would happen, but we need to think of what's best for Marley. we would LOVE to find a home that has experience with a special needs dog. Marley wants to be loved and wants a home where he can be part of the family. Do you have room in your heart and your home for this special boy? If you are interested in adopting Marley, send an email to FTLOD@RoadRunner.com for an adoption application. (Less)

Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.
