Rescue Me ID: 16-05-02-00276Charlie (female)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Charlie came to me through a friend who tried to rescue her but could not keep her due to having 3 dogs, a cat and two small children, which at the time, was just two much for her to handle. I took her and have tried to get her to come out of her shell but I have had very little luck. She has gotten better but still can be aggressive at times and I just don't think I have the training or time to break her. I want what is best for her at the end of the day so I'm posting her on here with hopes she can find a loving home with someone who knows how to handle this type of dog in her situation. She will be turning 5 This summer and is house ... (Read More)broken and crate trained. This is a serious inquiry only type of dog and does need a home where someone will be around to run her and work with her to try to make her quality of life better than I can currently. (Less)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Max and Roxy are a bonded brother and sister rescued from a TX kill shelter. They are approx 7 yrs old young! Max is rather sophisticated most times, walks great on a leash and just loves to be loved. He does like to play with a toy or ball and of course carry on with his sister. Max seems to be house trained and is getting accustomed to using a crate. I think he's a bit unsure of it. But doesn't make a peep once in it. We are working on some basic commands such as sit and off. He understands the off but the sit well let's say he's still working on perfecting that one. He has beautiful eyes that just melt your heart and is very ... (Read More)gentle. Roxy is the silly one. She loves any and all squeaky toys and has de-stuffed a few of them. She bounces up and down when she is happy and excited and her tail never stops wagging. She seems to be house trained and uses the crate easily with a little treat persuasion and doesn't make a peep. She knows the sit command and we are working on a few others. She is working on walking on a leash nicely as she pulls a little bit but not constantly. This bonded brother and sister get along great together. Max and Roxy are neutered/spayed, microchipped, current on vaccines including rabies and bordatella and on heart worm preventatives. This special duo is being cared for in TX and once adopted can be transported to the NE. The adoption fee of $500 is for both dogs and includes transport and required health certificates. Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This adorable puppy was born about February 17, 2016 and may, this is a BIG may, end up weighing in the 35-65 lb. range. At this point their age and breed choices are just one BIG guess! Truly, if you are looking for something particular or you don't like surprises please do not inquire about these puppies, we don't want you disappointed or our dog to become homeless as a young adult because it got too big, stayed too small, or you or someone else feels it is another breed other than our guess. How did we make this guess? One is merle, Doxies, Shelties, Australian Shepherds, and Great Danes come in merle along with many other breeds so ... (Read More)we guessed somewhere in the middle. These puppies are very social, happy, have been healthy, and are fun, wonderful babies! We have absolutely no idea of parentage and no knowledge how they ended up at the high kill shelter. The shelter must kill so fast, due to the population problem, that they seldom ask for information because it takes time and most of the time it just doesn't matter..... We are so glad these mystery puppies made the trip! (Less)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Sugar Bear is possibly the most loyal friend you could ever ask for. She is crazy about her humans and is always at their side. She is a 3 year old, 37 lbs very pretty Aussie mix. Her FAV past times include: snuggling, going on walks, play time with her doggie friends, going on adventures, sitting for treats and even more snuggling! She is smart and learns new things very quickly. At just 37 lbs, this pup has a big heart and lots of love to give! Sugar Bear is not a dog we would recommend for city living as she is a bit skittish of loud noises and needs to be introduced to new people slowly. She would do best in a home with another playful ... (Read More)dog and no young kids as well as someone who has the flexibility to be home during the day. We require a fenced in yard not electric fence. Sugar Bear is spayed, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $375. Animal ID: 11960Indy (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Female Dogs Only, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Indy is a loving affectionate dog who thrives on attention from his trusted people. His favorite things are chasing tennis balls, car rides and snuggling on the sofa. Indy is an easy dog to live with--content to toss a toy on his own, play a little catch and snuggle with his family. Indy has endured some challenges in his 7 years--including being abandoned in a shelter and taunted by children. He has some resulting anxiety which is effectively managed with a daily low dose of Reconcile/Fluoxetine ($45 for 2 months) and providing him with a stable adult only home. When anxious he can become 'yippy' so would not be suitable for apartment or ... (Read More)condo living. Indy is crate trained and has perfect manners. He would enjoy a traditionally fenced yard and a doggy sister if possible. He also is very good with cats. With just a bit of patience to give Indy the time to settle into his new home, a lucky adopter will have a well trained, fun-loving and happy dog who will give them years of devotion and affection. He is currently being fostered on Long Island. lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost New York Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
