pecial pup alert!!! We think Ruby's unusual medical condition makes this gorgeous girl even more special! Ruby is a house and crate trained 16 week old, 20 lb Hound/Shepherd mix who is as sweet as they come. She's in SC and needs a NY/tri-state area FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME. When she was very young, she was diagnosed with swimmer pup, a condition that weakens her back legs. Fortunately, with the help of our wonderful veterinarian, Ruby received laser treatment on her legs, and she is doing amazing! Her SC foster mom (who is a very experienced trainer) says, 'Ruby has the most awesome temperament! She loves everybody she meets, including all ... She hasn't been around kitties, but with her personality, I'd doubt there is a problem.' Ruby is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $425. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-18-00047Ava (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Ava is a long story, I had committed to rescuing another puppy 2 years ago and was waiting his arrival when the information was given to me on the kind of life this at the time 8 month old puppy was living. She was crated over 20 hours a day for the firs 8 months of her life. Of course I could not leave her where she was, and I thought, I'll just get her out of there, and I will find her a proper home. I had a month before the new puppy was to arrive, so it gave us some time to get to know each other, and after having her only a few days, I could see she had a lot of issues due to being locked up 20 hours a day and being a mix of two ... (Read More)herding breeds she needed a lot of attention and exercise. Well indeed she did, so we got to work on that, the problem was this dog had no idea what being outside was, sounds sights frightened her, so we worked at it everyday until she was less anxious about out door sounds etc. then I thought with all the anxiety and other fears she had, I couldn't just give her to anyone because someone would need to have a huge amount of patience for this seemingly out of control young lady. She had never been vetted, so we took care of all of that immediately and scheduled her spay right away. Riding in a car has always been any dog I've had greates joy, not this girl, she would jump right in like yeah this is great. Until the car started moving, then it was bark, pace, poop! I spoke to the vet, he said try crating her in the car, maybe to much going on around her, so we tried that, and several other things, but the only thing that has changed in the two years I've had her is at least she isn't pooping in the car. As time went on she has come a long way in two years but is still a very high maintenance and has started to pick fight with the puppy she has spent two years with. Just when we get over a hurdle, another arises. Here is the thing, I have always had dogs, all been different breeds and sizes and always gave them a fine life. What I'm feeling at this point is neither of the dogs in the house are becoming what they could be. It has become stressful, very stressful for me, and feel like I have failed her somehow. She does play well with other dogs, but she needs to be the dominant one and if she isn't, she will work very hard to let everyone know she is. She would prefer to be the only dog. Ava is very very smart, and can solve just about any puzzle in moments. She is great off leash in the woods and her recall is pretty perfect. She loves to play fetch with tennis balls ams soccer balls and would do it all day If she could. She would most likely make a great agility dog, but my RA prevents me from doing it with her, that and the ride to get her to the place. Ava is loyal as well, she could be someone's velcro dog. I would like to see her in a home where she is the only dog, because here I think she would thrive! She would do great with someone that is home or with her a lot, not someone that is gone for great lengths of time. Ava has a small bladder and can not hold it all day, if she has to be home say for an 8 hour work day, she will use a pad to urinate on if she has to. On any day I am home or in and out this is not an issue, if she can be let out frequently, she does not use the pad. She will wake me most nights to go out to relieve herself, as again she just can't hold it that long. She generally gets at least two one hour runs in the woods daily off leash and fetching her way through the walk. We also spend a lot of time in the fenced portion of the yard playing with the soccer ball. She does have a lot of energy but will hang out quietly once her need for speed is satisfied. As time has gone on and the other puppy is now two years old and much bigger than she is, they have started being less tolerance of each other, they coexist fine, but she feels a need to constantly prove that she is the boss of him, her play is much more aggressive and appears to enjoy bullying him, and when she starts this she is relentless. It's stressful, and she is not a pleasure to be with when she gets in this state. There is a lot to tell you about Ava, much more than I can do here, but she could be a great dog in the right home. I do have a huge amount of respect for her intelligence and her energy. I feel sad that although I got her out of a very horrible existence , that I don't believe she is truly happy here. She will be three in September, and has so much more growing and love to give, it's unfortunate that here she is letting me know that she isn't truly happy. There has to be someone that can let her greatness shine. I would love to talk to you more. (Less)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

The 'Happy' siblings were born about December 1, 2016 and Happy Dance will probably weigh about 25 lbs. when full grown. These beautiful pups are sweet as can be, but just a bit reserved at first. They may need a little warm up time, but then should fit in about any home. They are wonderful with the other dogs. We have no clue of parentage, just guessing by looks. The southern shelter doesn't ask any questions on intake as the reason is usually financial and the staff doesn't want to embarrass anyone. They are just thankful humans take the dogs there and the shelter staff is also very thankful that so many dogs are destined for the ... (Read More)safety of NYS!
