Rescue Me ID: 14-08-04-00506Jaz (male)
Our Jazzman, or Jaz, we believe is an Australian Shepherd / Terrier mix. He is our class clown who is approx. 3 years old, and weighs in at 40 lbs., so will remain a medium size dog. He is cute as button, as you can see from his playful photos, and has a nub for tail. This boy would love to have someone to take him to agility training, he is energetic but not over the top. He does well in a crate for crate training, and plays well with dogs about his same size. He knows sit, lay down and roll over, Jaz just wants to perform and please you! He is is good around dog friendly cats. Jaz would make a great indoor/outdoor dog! If interested call Phyllis at 660 620-2590 or email firstname.lastname@example.org (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-03-00143Odin (male)
Odin is a very affectionate Miniature Australian Shepherd Labrador mix. He is 27lbs and will be one Year old on August 18, 2014. He is obedience trained and has some novice agility training. He was attacked when he was a twelve week old puppy by a much larger dog which has left him very defensive and reactive to most other dogs. He gets along wonderfully with the Dachshund, Jack Russell, and Golden Retriever he is currently living with, and can get along with Older and low energy dogs if introduced to them properly. He is NOT okay with Cats and other small animals In regard to his obedience training, he is still learning to be reliable in loose leash walking and Stays, he is currently attending training sessions at 'The Dog House' in High Ridge. He knows quite a few fun and entertaining tricks (Ex: 'twist' which is to rebound off a person's chest into a spin and land facing the same direction as the human). He also has a 'safety walk' which is where he will walk in an attention heel between his handler's legs with automatic halts when the handler stop's walking. Odin is truly half lab, and as true to his nature is a wonderful and enthusiastic water retriever! He should still be kept on some form of long line when he goes out to do this to prevent any running risk if he sees another animal on his way out of the water! He is extremely snuggly and he loves to play, he learned what 'ouch' meant as a young pup and immediately lies down if you say it in case he gets overexcited and paws you roughly while playing. Typically he's a very considerate little boy. Odin is crate trained and completely House Broken. He can be a bit of a jumper when excited, but he fully understands the command 'off' and will obey it even if it is said before he would have jumped on someone. If in a home where people would be consistent with the use of off I believe the jumping could easily be put to an end. I will be compiling and posting a video very soon of his obedience commands and fun tricks! (Less)

Great dog. We've moved due to a job change and can't have him with us. Needs to be adopted immediately. Great with older children. Bad habit of jumping up on you. Knows a few commands. Housebroken but happier outside, he does dig and tried to dig under a fence. Loves attention.

Rescue Me ID: 14-06-24-00143Gideon (male)
Gideon is a special boy. His story, until finding me is unknown. He quite literally followed me home. I guess something told him I would help him. He has clearly been on his own for a long time. Very underweight, infested with ticks, skunked, and had some abrasions for some kind of scuffle. I own a grooming salon so he has been treated for the skunk spray, is up to date on frontline and shots. He needs to be neutered and is not micro-chipped. After two weeks here he is putting weight on and blossoming. He is very sweet and well behaved. Naturally just a very easy dog to live with and train. He is completely house trained, is great in a crate, good with kids and dogs. Would be a wonderful hiking buddy or ranch hand. Is excellent off lead. He simply is just an all around GREAT dog. I would keep him if my traveling schedule would allow it. Unfortunately staying with me would not be in his best interest. Please call if you think you would make him a wonderful home. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-02-05-00640Lone Ranger (male)
Approx DOB: 09/23/2008 Approx Wht: 50pds. $150 adoption fee includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Lone Ranger was left behind to fend for himself when his family moved. Furry Kids' Refuge took him in after the neighbors contacted us. Unfortunately, he tested positive for heartworms when we took him to our vet. He has been treated for the heartworms and should have no lasting effects from them, but (as with all dogs) MUST be kept on prevention to ensure he isn't infected again. Ranger has entered a foster home and his foster mom says he is just a wonderful teddy bear of a boy! His temperament is so laid back and even keeled. Not much gets this boy riled up. The only thing we've noticed so far is that Ranger definitely prefers female dogs over male dogs. So we recommend he only go to a home that has female dogs or no other dogs. Other than that, his main concern seems to be to receive a loving touch, keep an eye on the backyard, and lay down to keep an eye on everyone in the house. And Ranger is so loyal to his people that he will get up and follow you from room to room so he can be with you (in case you need him). Ranger does have a special trait though. He is a grumbler. :) He grumbles when he is happy, he grumbles when he plays and he grumbles when warning a new dog that comes around his yard. If you aren't aware of this trait, it can catch you by surprise when he starts to grumble as you pet him. Ranger is so beautiful with his blue eyes and happy smile he gives you. It's amazing that he is so sweet after being left behind to fend for himself by his previous family. He is going to make some family a wonderful companion.......could it be yours? Lone Ranger has been neutered, treated for heartworms, vaccinated and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting Lone Ranger, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. |Rescue Me ID: 14-02-05-00624 Melody (female)|
Approx Weight: 55 lbs. $150 adoption fee includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Melody can climb chain link fences and will need a 6'wood privacy or another type of secure containment. My name is Melody and I was rescued by Furry Kids' Refuge with my 11 puppies from a kill shelter. I was so deathly thin & unhealthy that when they took us from the shelter straight to the vets (my puppies were only 5 1/2 weeks old) he told them to not let the puppies nurse off of me or I was going to die. He gave me shots to help me start getting healthy and I went to the groups boarding facility to start fattening up & begin my road to wellness. I have been so well taken care of here and just wag my tail all the time (its called happy tail)....so much that I started hitting it on everything and caused it to be amputated. I look really adorable now with my stubby tail and I don't ever have to worry about it getting hurt again.....which is great because I still wag/wiggle like crazy !! I like all the dogs here and just love to run and play with them. I will however, stand my ground if another jumps on me. I will stop as soon as my guardian says no. I have no issues with food & people but since I was so starved before, I really don't want to share my food with the other dogs so I get crated while I eat. No one knows if I'm housebroke since I'm in boarding (all our foster homes are full) but with a little time, patience and love I would master it. I pull when walking on a leash but when I'm worked with I catch on quick so all I need is some daily walking and I will be great at it. I have been spayed, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped, wormed numerous times, and with my adoption comes a 2 week trial.......WOW !!! Please fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, just click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch. Thank you for your interest in me. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 14-01-27-00441Sierra (female)
Approx DOB: 06/19/2012 Approx Wht: 35 lbs Adoption Fee is $150 and includes a trial period to help ensure everyone's happiness. SIERRA IS A SPECIAL NEEDS FURRY KID BECAUSE SHE WILL NEED A SPECIAL FAMILY TO CONTINUE SOCIALIZING HER AND HELPING HER TO BECOME THE WONDERFUL DOG SHE HAS SHOWN US SHE IS !! Sierra has probably been a stray her whole life until a nice couple found her and reached out to rescue groups to come and get her. Furry Kids' went and managed to catch her -- and her puppies. Sierra's puppies were adopted quickly, but since Sierra had never really been around people before, Furry Kids' has been giving her more time to begin to trust. Sierra has been coming to PETCO for a few weeks to be socialized and to become more comfortable being around strangers and lots of people. She has been warming up but it will take her being in a new home becoming comfortable with her new family before she will really show how wonderful she is in her foster home. Her foster family says she is amazing ! She has learned to trust them more everyday and is now coming up to the wife to have her belly rubbed and be loved on. She is still shy with the husband and has not been in a home with children so she will need a lot of time to adjust to a new family. She needs a very understanding, patient, family that will give her space, time and lots of love. Sierra is great with other dogs but she is a herder and likes to herd everyone! She is house trained and crate trained......Bonus !!! She also walks great on a leash !!! Sierra is very timid and will not come to most people (only to her foster mom right now who has been with her for months). If offered a treat, she may take it, but will back away to eat it. She also allows strangers to pet her when she's in her crate. Sierra needs much more socialization and needs a quieter, laid back family that is willing to continue working with her on her socialization skills and letting her come out of her shell in her time frame. Sierra has been spayed, vaccinated, heart worm tested negative, micro chipped, wormed and has been kept on heart worm & flea preventatives every month. If you would like to know more about Sierra or meet her just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 13-12-22-00319Homer (male)
Approx DOB: 9/2008 Approx Weight: 40 lbs. $150 adoption fee also includes a 2 week trial to help ensure everyone's happiness. Homer is male Aussie/Lab mix who came to Furry Kids' Refuge when his time had run out at a local kill shelter. Homer loves people, loves tennis balls and loves to run...he would make a great jogging partner! ! He is very good with female dogs but he is not always comfortable with other male dogs. He tends to act dominant unless the other male is much larger or just very easy going. We are unsure if Homer is housebroken because he is in boarding until a foster home to become available. A crate/kennel is a great tool in helping master this skill and she is worth the time & effort! He's a smart boy...so it shouldn't take any time at all! Homer has been neutered, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, micro chipped. Please fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on 'Adopt A Dog' and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch. (Less)

Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Missouri if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.
