Rescue Me ID: 16-01-20-00534Tavin - MA (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tavin Breed: Catahoula Leopard Hound / Australian Shepherd Age: 1.5 years +/-; Neutered Male Medical: Up to Date on Vaccinations, Microchipped, Heartworm Negative, wormed Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes; Selective Cats: No Kids: 10 + Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts My Name is Tavin. I am not sure where that name came from or who gave it to me but it suits me. They say I am somewhere between 1 and 2 years old. Though I act like a puppy in a 60 lb body. I moved around a bunch in different homes and shelters so I will definitely be nervous in my new home for a bit. I have lived with my foster parents since ... (Read More)January and I have come a long way. They tell me it was pretty apparent that I grew up with no training or discipline. They are very patient with me and have convinced me they are in charge. (for a little bit I thought I was). It makes me less anxious to live in a home that has rules. I have been going to formal dog training and I can heel, and down stay. Everyone in class laughs how I shuffle my butt to get in the right position when asked to heel. They say I am the class clown. I used to tug on the leash and bark at everything that walked by (who doesn't want to say hi to everyone?) but my foster mom has showed me that that is not a fun way to walk....so now I try to stay at your side and wait for permission to greet passer-bys. It's going well but on occasion, I still react a bit. At first bikes and cars were scary to me and I wanted to chase them, but living in an urban area I have been exposed to them a lot and I figured out things with wheels aren't so scary. Everywhere I go, I get pets (which I love) and people say how good looking I am. We sit outside at Starbucks near us a lot and, Lately, people keep saying how well behaved I am. I get along with some dogs but sometimes I play a little too rough. I am not ready to be a dog park dog yet but with slow introductions I am can be good with playing with smaller groups of dogs with close supervision. Some dominant male dogs have not liked me. I guess I give off a stand-offish vibe to males. My older foster sister and I wrestle a lot. I think that is really fun. I am not too good at sharing toys with her, yet, but we are working on that. I might do better as an only dog because I love humans. I LOVE fetch. Nothing makes me happier than bringing the ball back to you over and over and over again. I haven't really been exposed to kids or cats so I probably would do best in a home without them. I Hope my new home has people who have experience with strong-willed, active dogs who want to continue my training.. I think I would like active owners who have lots of patience and will spend the time I need to continue my training. I LOVE getting my belly rubbed and will do anything for treats. I am a great dog and my fosters say I am a fast learner. I have been through a lot in my young life and it'll probably be a longer transition period than most rescue dogs, but, I can't wait to finally have my own home forever. If you are interested in adopting Tavin please email sln2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Tavin's adoption donation is $350 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heartworm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada (Less)

lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Maine Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
