Rescue Me ID: 16-01-20-00534Tavin - MA (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Tavin Breed: Catahoula Leopard Hound / Australian Shepherd Age: 1.5 years +/-; Neutered Male Medical: Up to Date on Vaccinations, Microchipped, Heartworm Negative, wormed Weight: 50 pounds Dogs: Yes; Selective Cats: No Kids: 10 + Crate Trained : Yes House Trained : Yes Location: Massachusetts Tavin loves to play play play! He is also VERY food motivated which makes him easy to train. He does well with other dogs, but needs a slow introduction. He would do best as an only dog or with one other dog that is younger and of a larger breed that is not dominant. He gives off the alpha vibe and does not do well with other alpha males. But he is ... (Read More)esily redirected with food. He is not a ready made dog and needs a strong confident owner who can act as a good leader for him and continue working on his training. He needs active owners who can keep his energetic mind stimulated. He would also do best with older children in the home, ages 10 and up. He is prey driven and wants to chase birds and squirrels, so cats would not be good for him. He loves people, especially snuggling. He has been crated during the day when his fosters are at work and loves going for walks with his dog walker. He is getting better daily with leash walking and due to be fostered in the city has been getting a ton of socialization! If you are interested in adopting Tavin please email sln2310@yahoo.com and request an application. Once your application has been received and reviewed, you will be contacted via email or phone by one of our volunteers. After your application is approved, the foster parent for the dog you have selected will contact you to answer any questions you may have and determine if that dog is a good match for your family. If you have no particular dog in mind, we will be happy to keep your application on file and notify you if the right dog should come into rescue. Catahoula Rescue of New England is an all-volunteer group. Dogs in our program are fostered by volunteers. The foster homes care for our dogs as if they were their own. All dogs have received vaccinations appropriate to age and are spayed or neutered. Tavin's adoption donation is $350 which includes Rabies, DHLPP, Bordetella, fecal test, heart worm test when appropriate and is on preventative, microchip, and neuter. We do not have a physical shelter, all of our dogs are fostered in individual foster homes across the New England and Canada. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Shepherd in Maine
Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Maine if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.

lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Maine Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
