Rescue Me ID: 15-04-28-00258Terra (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Terra was not properly socialized as a young dog due to her owner being too busy. She spent way too much time crated as well. She spent the past 7 months in a new home but the little boy, aged 14 mos, didn't respect her space, due to being very unfamiliar with little children, she wasn't sure what to make of this little person, she did snap at him when he didn't read her body language but she never bit and she certainly could have. She is very timid and afraid of crazy busy environments due to her lack of exposure. I pulled her from the shelter because I knew her and knew how affectionate she is. She is very sweet and affectionate and ... (Read More)just take a few days to warm up to a new environment. I am very comfortable placing her in an adult home. I have not had her with other dogs but she did live in a home with cats. She did get possessive of her food when the cat went to close but otherwise was okay. Terra is quiet and housebroken. She is very content to just lay around and be petted. She would be an excellent companion for an older couple or person who just want to have a friend to keep them company. (Less)

Ace was abandoned in a rural area and had been visiting areas where there were other dogs. He has been housebroken to the shelter (does his business outside) and is learning to walk on lead. He is friendly with most people (after getting to know them) but might be a little rough with young children. He is high energy and very smart and would benefit from exposure to different types of exercise and learning. Ace is looking for his forever home! We are very rescue-friendly and have transport assistance to the northeast!

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-17-00522Banjo (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Banjo is a loving, friendly, EXTREMELY high energy dog. He loves playing with all dogs, taking long walks and exploring new places. Banjo requires many hours of exercise and attention per week. He becomes extremely destructive if he does not get the appropriate amount of physical and mental exercise. Banjo responds really well to training and would make a great agility dog. He has also aided in moving cattle several times and is a great herder. Banjo is 75% housebroken, he occasionally decides not to ask to be taken out and will sneak in the basement to potty. Overall, a really wonderful and intelligent dog in need of a home where he ... (Read More)will get an extensive amount of attention. This is a high-energy, high-maintenance dog who will love you unconditionally. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-04-00124Charlie (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Charlie is a very loyal, smart and energetic dog that we adopted when he was only five weeks old. We love him very much and it is very hard to try and find a new home for him, but we are looking to find a better environment that he can thrive in. Charlie's current situation is not meeting his needs and causing him undue stress. When we originally adopted Charlie we did not have children and were not as busy with running our business. Unfortunately, he does not get the proper exercise and attention he needs, which causes more aggressive behaviors to surface. Our two children are a source of stress for him as he wants to 'manage' them as ... (Read More)they navigate the house together. We also have an older, very docile dog who has become somewhat isolated because Charlie is so territorial. Charlie really needs an active owner to further his training and take him on hikes and other fun outdoor activities. He loves to run trails, hike and play ball in a big, open field. He has had training at the Humane Society and learned commands quickly. We discovered he is very stimulated by his environment and that will need to be addressed to socialize him with other dogs or animals. I would suggest a home without children and a slow introduction to another dog. Charlie is a great companion and it will be very difficult to let him go. Ultimately, we are interested in finding a better life for him so that he can be happier and healthier with less stress. (Less)

Gracie is an 9yr old 45lb Aussie/Pointer mix. Gracie is full of life and energy. Gracie is housebroken, current on vaccines, and heartworm negative. Sadly, Gracie was left to have multiple litters of puppies and as a result, developed mammary cancer, which was surgically removed last year, when she was spayed. Gracie gets along well with male dogs, and kids, but not so with cats. She loves to chase, but never harms them. Our cats do not appreciate Gracie's style of play! Gracie would love a home of her own, to live out her life as a fun loving girl! Gracie is current on vaccines and monthly preventatives. Gracie's adoption fee is $150. ...     Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
