This sweetheart was found dumped on the side of the road in Arkansas. We are guessing Dory to be between 10-12 weeks old,is about 11 lbs and who knows what breed, besides something with a long soft coat! She has an all around great disposition and would make a great addition to any family. Being very friendly, she loves to play with other dogs and loves all people. Tug, chase, toys are her favorite games and will welcome the attention from anyone to play with her. She loves to climb on your lap for belly rubs and cuddle time, but will also be content going off on her own for nap time. She will need training 101, so previous puppy ... (Read More)experience is a plus. Being treat motivated she has learned sit, and working on come. But, housebreaking, crate training and leash training hasn't begun yet. She is currently using pee pads and with someone all day. Someone will need to be home most of the day to continue her training and socialization. If you are interested in meeting this little bundle of fur or for more information, please go to to read about the adoption process. There, you will also find an application to fill out and send back. Thank you for your interest in adopting! * Breed, age and size are all guesses and not guaranteed. (Less)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I don't know much about Mahaska's first family other than she was kept away from the family because the new baby was allergic to her. She is my first foster and she is a DM (deaf) she is learning manners in the home and was already house broken and starting to learn a few things from her first temp foster. Mahaska has learned sit, down, 'up' from a down back to a sit, off, stay, drop it, get it, leave it, come, watch me, quite, no, good girl, and targeting touch-to next step ring a bell to go outside. All hand signals.. She is great at fetch and when she is a little older would be good at frisbee.. I'm 5'2' and at almost 7 months she can ... (Read More)jump to my head. She walks really well on a leash..and knows when I tap her ears or her butt to turn and look at me. Super smart and really quick to learn.. She loves the attention and really likes the communication, I think she does mischief stuff just so I talk to her in sign language.. ?? this is her with an awesome leave it.. Note she is not even looking at it.. 'Perfect' If you are interested in making this pup part of your family, please fill out our adoption application: adoption fee is $325 and all fees are used for future rescue efforts. There is a $50 refundable deposit that will be returned upon proof neuter and microchip (Less)

Animal ID: 2910Rex (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered

I am Rex, a 5-year-old Shepherd/Hound mix and I weigh about 80 pounds. Before my foster dad Mike saved me, I was in the shelter for almost 4 months. He volunteers with Humane Society of Aurora Illinois and that's where we met. I'm pretty sure it was love at first sight for both of us. I don't know why, but my old parents didn't want me anymore and left me at that scary place and they had me live outside most of the time, but sometimes I got to go in the house if it was really cold out. I am house and crate trained and work really hard to be good. I love stretching out on the comfy carpet and not being hot or cold or wet all the time. I ... (Read More)play with soft toys, ropes, tennis balls and Nylabones but squeaky toys get me kind of excited. I'm a rock star at catching stuff in the air (like treats, hint hint)and would love to have a backyard where I could play catch with my fur siblings and humans. When my foster dad is watching TV or reading I sit next to him and get scratches on my head and behind my ears. My foster fur siblings Dexter and Nikki like me and we get along real good, playing games like 'keep away', 'steal the toy' and 'mouth wrestle'. When we go for a walk I like exploring all the great smells, whether it's just me and dad or with the other dogs too. I'm really strong and can pull, but if you have me on my Easy Walk harness I'm much better. There are so many really good smells and sometimes I just HAVE to get to them. I like watching people but meeting them makes me nervous so I need slow introductions with lots and lots of treats and praise so I know it's okay. I don't trust everybody at first, especially some men, but give me time and I'm a giant love bug... after I get to know you I just might climb in your lap for kisses and treats. Just ask my grandma and grandpa about that! I'm anxious around small children so I probably shouldn't be around them, though older kids will have fun throwing a ball when playing with me. They understand how to behave around me better. I know lots of commands and tricks too'| Lora from Over The Moon Positive Dog Training evaluated me and taught my dad and my walker Ashley tricks so I will be more confident. I know 'sit', 'down', 'paw', 'stay', 'wait', find it', 'touch', 'turn' and 'belly' and when you throw a ball or toy I will bring it back and trade for a treat. My dad says I'm a really smart guy, maybe too smart ha-ha! I really like being around other dogs and hanging out with them, but cats make me want to chase them so I probably shouldn't be around them. I just want to play with them but I'm too strong is what my dad says and I don't speak 'cat' so don't understand when they tell me to back off. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago.I'd really like to find my furever home so if you're looking for a strong, loyal fun dog I'm the guy for you! Woof! (Less)

After being an amazing mom to 5 babies, Lily is ready to find her forever family! She is an all around great, sweet dog! We are guessing her to be a doxie mix. With having one adorable blue eye she may have some aussie mixed in. But, some of her puppies look to have some lab mixed in, so not sure if they get that from mom or dad. She has been fostered in a home with other dogs and kids. Being well socialized, she gets along with all. Around a year old, with an extra bonus, Lily is housebroken. Someone who loves the outdoors would be great, since she loves to be outside. Her foster family takes her for walks, and currently does well ... (Read More)with a harness. Rescue Me ID: 16-05-01-00625Olaf (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

*Not my dog but I can connect you with owners.* Currently in Paxton, IL but transport can likely be arranged. Olaf is 10-12 month(based on what I was told his age was when he came here) old deaf Aussie mix(suppose to be w husky/lab but I'm not sure about it because of his size). He is housebroken, crate trained, knows a few hand signals,ok off leash once he trained to his boundaries, good with other dogs(male or female) as long as they are tolerant of his play level/herding instinct, good with kids.. he is great w my 3 year old granddaughter who lives w me BUT she knows not to grab at dogs and she understands she can't startle him so would say ... (Read More)home with older kids would be best unless toddler is well behaved. Honestly at times he acts like he may have been abused early in life as he will sometimes cower from you. He loves to play with balls. Olaf currently lives with another dog and enjoys sleeping with his canine pal. Emily (Less)

lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Illinois Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
