Meet Canada! Female Possibly Lab/Aussie Mix - Very Petite About 5 months old Canada came to Safe Haven from a high kill shelter in Alabama with a broken leg on July 26th. We took her to our vet here in Illinois, but her leg was so badly damaged that it had to be amputated. Do not let this deter you from meeting Canada - dogs adapt very well to only having 3 legs and who can resist that sweet face? Less than a month after her surgery, she acts like nothing is different about her! She runs, plays and takes stairs just like any other dog! She has a clean bill of health from the vet too. She loves to play with other dogs, and also cats, although cats don't like playing with her too much! She is sooooo soft, and her two different colored eyes are just gorgeous. She loves to be loved and when you rub her chest and belly she just melts! She also snuggles into your neck when you carry her. Canada has never met an adult of child that she didn't love! She is more than happy to spend time cuddling with you. She is gentle and happy go lucky. She also enjoys playing with her toys and chewing on her bones. If you believe that you can give her all the things in the world that she deserves and then some, please email us for an application. Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, up-to-date on shots, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 15-05-22-00119Bandit (male)|
. Male Beagle/Aussie/Jack Russell mix. DOB 2/20/14 Approximate weight - 30lbs Bandit was abandoned in rural Kentucky during one of the coldest winters on record. He was lucky to have been found by a wonderful rescue angel that knew he deserved a much better life! Bandit is a happy little ball of energy. He is always super excited to see you... if you have been gone for hours, or you just let him in from the back yard after 5 minutes. He is attentive, and eager to please; a very quick learner. He can be left alone, out of his crate, for a few hours without him getting into anything he's not supposed to We have been working on training; he is proficient with sit and lay down. He makes good eye contact waiting for your direction, and he waits patiently after his food is put down for his cue to chow down. Stay is a work in progress. He takes a little while to warm up to other dogs, and seems to be protective of his space. Having said that, he became fast friends with the resident pooch in his foster home, but it was not without the requisite barking, growling, posturing, and hair raising. That episode lasted for about 5 minutes before they were let loose in the back yard together to figure each other out. After about 10 minutes of testing each other's limits... they have been playing non-stop ever since. Having another dog in the home is very beneficial for him! His playmate is also young so his high level of energy is matched by hers. Bandit loves everyone, old and young. He loves getting attention from grown people, but also seems to love big hugs from small people. When you first meet him one of the first things you notice (after getting over his adorable little fuzzy face), is that he has some of the most gorgeous eyes ever... one is light blue, and the other is mostly brown, with some light blue at the top. Sometimes he gets his left lip rolled up near his gums like dogs do on occasion, which just makes him that much cuter! This little guy has Jack Russell and Aussie traits, but his unbridled love and excitement makes him more than worth it for the right home! Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email Kathy for an application at email@example.com. Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.
