Animal ID: 2875Katie (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Katie is a sweet girl, with lots of Aussie energy and curiosity! She is 35#'s at 6 mos. of age, and her DOB is 8-31-14. Katie would be an awesome dog for an active family that knows the Aussie breed energy and the need to be occupied. Children over 8 years that can handle an active dog would be great. Katie is housetrained, and listens well. Someone home most the day is best, not gone regulary more than 4 to 5 hours per day. She will be a great girl in an obedience class, and agility would be so much fun for her! She is alert and wants to learn. Having a fenced yard to run and play in is perfect so she can run and check things out, and chase ... (Read More)a ball or frisbee. Katie will settle down and be a snuggler too. Katie loves her brushing and is so happy when being petted! Another active dog who likes to run and play would be great! She is good with the other dogs and cats at her foster home, and sleeps all night in her foster Mom's room. Katie is not a big barker, and does well in her kennel. She is waiting for a family or individual to show her the world, one that will love her 4-ever! (Less)

Animal ID: 2879Ben (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Ben is a sweet and friendly boy with medium energy. He is 4 1/2 mos. born 10-20-14, now weighing 32#'s. As an adult he may weigh between 55#'s to 60#'s. Ben plays very well with the other dogs at his foster home and is good with the cats too. Children would be good if 5yrs. and over so he doesn't knock them down by accident. He is gentle mouthed, but still a teething puppy. Rough and tumble at the right times like Ben Smith of the Chicago Blackhawks as he is named after, then gentle and a cuddler for some good snuggle time. A fenced yard to run and play in, or leash walks and regular dog park visits is good. Someone home most the time is ... (Read More)needed due to his young age. Ben is potty trained well for his age, as long as you let him out as needed. He is not a big barker, and is kennel trained. Ben sleeps through the night in his foster Mom's room, and wants to be with his humans. Squeaky toys are his second best! You could be his first! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-06-00192LUNA (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

DOB 6/30/13 Luna is a beautiful Aussie mix with one blue and one brown eye but takes after the beagle side of her family with her small stature. Luna was left at a vets office in Alabama and her family never returned. They had just adopted her several months earlier and then abandoned her. When the vet called the family said they could no longer keep her but did not want her going back to the shelter in AL because she was such a sweet girl. Australian Shepherds are demanding of time and attention and want to be with you constantly; this trait is one of many that make them a wonderful family pet but can also pose a challenge for 1st time ... (Read More)Aussie mix owner. Her foster mom has this to say about her: 'Luna has the brains of an Aussie and the energy of a beagle; she sits, walks well on leash, rides in a car and lays down on command. However, she has selective hearing so a fenced yard would work best for her. She is great with other dogs and would do best in a home with another K-9 companion. Australian Shepherds need a great deal of physical exercise and mental stimulation. Herding, advanced obedience, agility, jogging or biking, chasing balls, and playing Frisbee are constructive outlets for their enthusiasm. Luna loves long walks and would make a great jogging partner. Luna does not do well with cats or other small animals as her instinct is to chase them. She would also do best in a home with teenage children as Aussies have a tendency to herd smaller children. She is housebroken knows basic commands and will make someone a great companion. She's great in a crate and rarely makes a peep until it's time to come out. If you have an active family and are looking for a companion to go on your journeys - Luna may just be the girl for you! Standard adoption fee is $295 and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Illinois Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
