Animal ID: 2901Cubby (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Most Cats
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cubby is such a sweet natured boy! He is still an active puppy, will fetch a ball , play chase with other dogs, and loves to run! He has been in a foster home with all sizes and shapes of dogs, and simply wants to play play play! He is ok with cats, but still a bit to active for most of them. Cubby loves attention, activity, walks, along with human and canine friendships. He is not a couch potato, but does settle down in between playtime and is then easy going. He is house trained, has good indoor manners, crate trained, but has too much energy to be crated all day. He will sleep in his foster mom's room all night till time to get up. Cubby ... (Read More)is now 57#s, at 10 mos. of age , with his birthday of 8-1-2014. Due to size and playfulness, children 7 and over is best, along with a fully fenced yard to exercise and run in. Someone home at least half the day is best. He would excel in a training class leading up to agility or other fun activity. This would keep his mind and body busy, and make full use of his natural talents and his awesome spirit. In return, you would have a wonderful companion, and Loyal Best Friend. If you are interested in adopting Cubby, please fill out an online adoption application on our web site: www.helpinganimals.org to be considered and contacted. Thank you for your interest in Cubby. Rescue Me ID: 15-05-22-00119Bandit (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

. Male Beagle/Aussie/Jack Russell mix. DOB 2/20/14 Approximate weight - 30lbs Bandit was abandoned in rural Kentucky during one of the coldest winters on record. He was lucky to have been found by a wonderful rescue angel that knew he deserved a much better life! Bandit is a happy little ball of energy. He is always super excited to see you... if you have been gone for hours, or you just let him in from the back yard after 5 minutes. He is attentive, and eager to please; a very quick learner. He can be left alone, out of his crate, for a few hours without him getting into anything he's not supposed to We have been working on training; he ... (Read More)is proficient with sit and lay down. He makes good eye contact waiting for your direction, and he waits patiently after his food is put down for his cue to chow down. Stay is a work in progress. He takes a little while to warm up to other dogs, and seems to be protective of his space. Having said that, he became fast friends with the resident pooch in his foster home, but it was not without the requisite barking, growling, posturing, and hair raising. That episode lasted for about 5 minutes before they were let loose in the back yard together to figure each other out. After about 10 minutes of testing each other's limits... they have been playing non-stop ever since. Having another dog in the home is very beneficial for him! His playmate is also young so his high level of energy is matched by hers. Bandit loves everyone, old and young. He loves getting attention from grown people, but also seems to love big hugs from small people. When you first meet him one of the first things you notice (after getting over his adorable little fuzzy face), is that he has some of the most gorgeous eyes ever... one is light blue, and the other is mostly brown, with some light blue at the top. Sometimes he gets his left lip rolled up near his gums like dogs do on occasion, which just makes him that much cuter! This little guy has Jack Russell and Aussie traits, but his unbridled love and excitement makes him more than worth it for the right home! Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. Rescue Me ID: 15-04-09-00550DARLING (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

DOB 3/2/2013 Darling was abandoned at a high kill shelter in Alabama that we work closely with. We were able to get her out of the shelter and into an amazing foster home in Alabama where she is waiting for her trip to Illinois and learning about love. Her Alabama foster told us that she is very sweet with humans... she will lick you to death. She is learning to sit. She is learning to share her people... It's like she is starving for attention and afraid to be abandoned again. She is housebroken and loves everyone...adults and children. Her foster in Illinois, has found that she is extremely sweet! She loves other dogs and does well with ... (Read More)cats too! She is also wonderful with children of all ages. She loves to be with her foster mom and has made her way onto the foot of the bed...that's where she sleeps each night! She has fantastic house manners and is very eager to please. She responds to 'no' and 'down' and learns quickly. She would love to have someone that is home with her because she does not crate well, it makes her very nervous and crating is not an option. Standard adoption fee is $295 (cash or check) and includes spay/neuter at our participating vets, immunizations/shots up to the point of adoption, fecal, deworming, frontline, 1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, micro-chipping and 30 days of shelter care insurance. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogs@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

An owner surrender from a family who couldn't afford to care for him any longer, Toby didn't have much, but he's always been loved. He is used to attention, is house broken and crate trained. He does well with kids but would do best in a home with older children as he likes to romp about a lot. He also should go to a home with a fence, as he's a great runner! He'd love an active family who can provide him with love, attention and more TOYS! He ... (Read More)cuddles and carries them around whenever he can. lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Illinois Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
