Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Sable. I'm an older gal, but I have a heart full of love. They think I'm around 8 years old. I am very calm and low energy. My legs get tired easily, so I'm content to just be by someone's side quietly. I love laying by my person and taking a nap. I am potty trained and put my paw on the door to go out. I do not get on furniture and I like my doggie bed. I'm spayed and UTD on everything. I do have some hair loss, but my foster mom has a big bottle of salmon oil so my hair is almost back. She says I am beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet companion that is easy to care for, I'm your girl!! I get along with everyone, but my ... (Read More)foster mom does not have cats so not sure about that. I'm waiting for my Furever home, but my foster mom is glad I'm staying with her. http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/asf-adoption-application.html (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-19-00368Koala (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Male Dogs Only, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed

Koala is an approximately 3.5 year old Carolina dog. She is very high energy! She is social with male and female strangers who greet her calmly, and she is willing to engage and accept handling. She is cordial and potentially playful with calm dogs, regardless of size or gender, but can become excitable with high energy dogs. NO CATS!!!!! While she is exceptionally confidant and dominant, with proper handling she is cooperative. Koala is a dog for the seasoned dog person. She needs obedience training, as well as impulse control training. She is definitely a dog who actually will ENJOY training! Koala will do best in a home with active ... (Read More)adult owner(s), who consistently run, walk or hike on a regular basis. She would not be a dog for a senior citizen, and would be best in a home without children or grandchildren. She is excited by transition, and this needs to be taken into consideration when introducing strangers into the home. Her new owner should be someone who is behaviorally firm, someone who is not too hard, not too soft, who will provide her with consistent structure. This person should be someone who is eager and willing to train. A local trainer made the observation of Koala that she is intelligent and needs leadership and cognitive challenges! A fenced yard with a minimal 6-ft privacy fence is ideal. Koala is spayed, and current on shots as well as flea and heart worm preventative. Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Heartworm Positive

Remy is a 5 year old Australian Shepherd girl. She was found as a stray, extremely matted so we had to shave her down. We were able to locate the owner but she refused to take the dog back but was very willing to surrender this sweety pie to us. She tested low heartworm positive but is already in the middle of her treatment and will be done with it shortly. Remy is the sweetest thing ever but is picky with other dogs and hates cats. She is amazing with kids and people. A perfect family dog.

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-02-00565Bear (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

3 year old active boy turned in with brother due to divorce. Dogs were stated as being to much for wife to handle alone. Bear was accustomed to being outside with lots of acreage. Bear is stressed by the confinement of the kennel run. When outside in the fenced activity areas, he appears in need of something to do. The shelter environment is very difficult for him and he grows more stressed each day by the restrictive space and activity. Bear would at times get into a scuffle with his brother so he is not put outside with any other dogs. He is fine with dogs running alongside him on opposite side of fenced areas. Staff feel that he would be ... (Read More)fine once he is away from the shelter. He arrived at the shelter on 17 Jan 2015. For additional information on this animal, adoption process/requirements and adoption fee, call the shelter administrative office at 706-865-4135 during operating hours of 10-4 Tue-Sat and 1-4 on Sun. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a 'No kill' shelter which provides quality care, spay/neuter-all vaccines-deworming-vet exam-standard disease testing and for dogs-monthly prevention heart worm treatment. Dogs are walked daily and/or have fenced area playtime. Cat and kittens have communal rooms in which they socialize, play and lounge. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquishments. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoption hours are Tues-Sat 10-4 and Sun 1-4. Contact or visit CSHS, 4823 Helen Hwy. 75N, Sautee, GA 30571, 706-865-4135. The shelter is located 3 miles south of the alpine town of Helen in the NE mountains. (Less)

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adult Women Only
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Tess is a very healthy, almost 3 year old female mix-breed. She is very loved but has become depressed in her current home. She loves to be outdoors and needs a home with a large, fenced in, yard. She loves cats but is very submissive around dogs. She faced a lot of abuse from her first owner and developed a lot of fears from it, including a fear of most men, some women, and a constant need of approval. I love her so much but can tell that she is struggling emotionally and I do not have the resources to help her.

Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Georgia if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Georgia Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
