Rescue Me ID: 17-10-03-00260Taz (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

i - My name is Mike. My wife and I recently adopted a dog from the Hillsborough Counter Pet Resource Center. My wife has been volunteering there and came across this pup named Taz. We are not sure of his breed - he was 41 lbs when we got him but very undernourished. We have limited information about the situation he came from. Taz is a sweet, well trained dog but unfortunately not getting along with one of our other dogs. In the shelter he showed no signs of aggression toward other dogs or people. When we got him home he acclimated quickly and integrated with our other two dogs just fine. One of our current dogs named Outlaw (11 ... (Read More)Years old) tends to have issues with meeting new dogs but once he is used to them he is fine. Both Outlaw and Taz are mostly fine together but there have been a couple big fights over triggers (i.e. our neighbors dogs barking or other dogs being walked by our backyard fence,, food, etc..) Taz is also very reactive on leash. While walking, he barks at Joggers, People on Bicycles, UPS Trucks and especially other dogs. We walk Taz with our other very passive dog named Kaleah (Shes a 50 lbs Pointer mix of some sort) and there are no issues with her. We hired a dog trainer and after two meetings to assess the situation they recommended we re-home Taz. At this time they also recommend that Taz be crated while in the house to avoid any issues with him and Outlaw. I have been working with Taz during our walks but his extremely intent at focusing on what his 'triggers' are. we have had visitors to the house and he is friendly to them but He is very excitable. So this is our dilemma, we do NOT want to send him back to the Pet Resource center because as much as they are doing a really good thing for dogs they are still not No Kill and we feel he will be Euthanized. He is really just too sweet to not try and help but he needs attention and care that we can not give him. As well we feel restricted because of our other dog that he does not get along with. We have made it clear to our trainer that if they can find someone to foster / re home him to we would maintain his training so he could succeed. With your organization we could make a donation or if you need to pay trainer etc we could do that. We really want him to go where it will be best for him. We just do not feel like our home is the best place for him but until we find the right place he will be with us. If you feel you can help please let me know or if you know of any other organizations that could please share their info. Thanks for your time. (Less)

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jackson is available for foster or adoption. We are a foster-based rescue and always looking for fosters! Jackson is currently fostered in Riverview, FL (Hillsborough County). Hi, my name is Jackson! Foster momma asked me to talk about myself so that I can find my forever, so here is what I have to say as typed by her. I am a year old and 80 lbs, up-to-date on vaccines and preventives, neutered, microchipped and heartworm-free! I have been told that I am a Great Pyrenees mix. The vet said I even have some Australian shepherd in me! I am not sure what that means, but to me it means that my job is to be outside protecting my territory. ... (Read More)According to foster momma, if I didn't have the pesky herding dog instincts fighting with the guardian instincts, I would be out with lots of grass eaters making sure that they stay safe from predators. Since I do have a lot of desire to make the grass eaters move, she won't let me stay in their pasture with them. On the other paw, she says that that instinct is also why I have never tried to escape my pasture, so I guess it isn't all bad. I came into rescue with a goat who was my friend who has since been adopted. I am still looking for my forever home. I am pretty bouncy when I want attention, but my foster parents are working on it. I won't let strangers come out where I am, because they could be ninjas in disguise, unless one of my foster parents comes out with them and tells me that they are allowed. I do not want any furry things getting into my food, so I let them know that they are not allowed. I am not an inside dog as I refuse to go in the house. I would make an awesome farm dog but I am admittedly not the best livestock guardian. I just want to be your friend. (Less)

She is an easygoing dog that loves her people. She is not fond of cats, rabbits or ferrets. She would love a home where she could hang with her person all day long. She is a no-trouble dog, housetrained, up-to-date on vaccines and prevention, and spayed. Let us know if you'd like to meet this sweet girl! ...     Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
