Hi, my name is Rowdy. I am an Aussie mix and I am 4 %BD months old. Just like my name says, I am rowdy and rambunctious. I am affectionate and love to play. I do well with other dogs and would probably do well with children, but I have not been tested yet. I am learning my basic commands and I am learning how to walk on a leash. I am in the process of being potty trained and like all puppies, I need continued training and repetition. Rescue Me ID: 15-08-22-00220Sammi-PENDING! (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

The very first thing that Sammi the Border Collie/Australian Shephard mix wants to make clear is that she's a love. In this photo, you're not aware of the darkest charcoal black and whitest of white that run through her gorgeous coat. It is with grooming, care and great nutrition that Sammi's coat will show its gorgeous colors. Everything is new to Sammi...her adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, Sammi is next to you on the couch. She's so happy there because her human (and canine) relationships are so important to her. We have to ... (Read More)remember that Sammi comes from a very tough and challenging shelter. This 9 - 12 month old, 35 lb (anticipated adult weight 35 - 40 lbs--what a perfect size for a Colorado dog!) Border Collie/Aussie mix truly lights up whens she feels likes she's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send her over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Sammi is doing very well at mastering house skills...quite an accomplishment for a rescue pup! Sammi's foster mom has the following to say about Sammi: Sammi is doing great! She really enjoys (and even loves) my 2 dogs and they all have the greatest time playing in my yard. Sammi is very respectful of them. I was very pleasantly surprised at the level of her respect and gentle nature - when they tell her they have had enough play time, Sammi immediately backs off and keeps herself busy in a positive way. You would also expect a young Border Collie to be a bit crazy and have tons of energy..this isn't the case with Sammi. She has exactly the right amount of energy. She's so responsive..if she jumps on me, I just have to say no and she responds. She also learned the sit command in about 2 minutes..no kidding. It must be about the natural intelligence (and inherent great personalities) of these working-type dogs. I actually think Sammi is quite calm for a 9 - 12 month old. She loves to play, run and beginnings of frisbee play...but then loves to cuddle equally. Her temperament is outstanding! I just have to walk into the room and glance at her...it's head to toe waggy tail and huge smile. She is such a sweet girl - anyone who welcomes Sammi into their home is truly getting a gem of a dog! Sammi' SUMMARY Sammi is such a people dog. She loves kids of all ages but they definitely must be very gentle and handle her kindly. We envision Sammi with an active retired couple or individual or a family with a bit older kids who want a beautiful and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. She would be so excited to spend her days in the company of her family. Being a Border Collie/Aussie, Sammi loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. She would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes and agility class. She would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please, she would excel. Sammi would also be overjoyed to hike along Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with her people. Her nature is to be very joyful and in moments her silly and fun nature takes over. We've requested that Sammi be spayed prior to her transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to too many dogs and not enough vets in these rural areas. In fulfilling our commitment to zero population growth, Farfels is happy to cover all costs for spaying and a microchip for Sammi if our Denver vet is used. Sammi will be arriving on transport in Denver on 8/28/15. Rescue Me ID: 15-08-21-00209Bernadette-PENDING! (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

The Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix is a perfect combo for those with who are searching for an extremely smart, active and loyal companion. They're famous for their intelligence, great temperaments and loving and snuggly ways. They're also known to be trustworthy and very gentle with family members and other family pets.. They (like all dogs) require exercise and love being with their people...if a walk or hike is the order of the day - count them in! These breed mixes are known to hike joyfully through the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans, canines and felines (Bernadette ... (Read More)loves all!). Bernadette is an absolutely adorable and engaging puppy who was chosen for that coveted ticket to a new life in Colorado because of her extraordinary temperament. She's just 12 weeks old and 8.8 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 35 lbs when full-grown) and filled with nothing but love and great intentions. She will be that perfect companion for kids who love dogs and are yearning for that fuzzy best friend. Bernadette would also love adult company...perfect for a morning run or frisbee at the park. Bernadette's Oklahoma foster mom sent us the following report on this sweet puppy: Bernadette has to be the the most endearing pup ever! She greets me in the morning with the cutest smile. She very politely asks for breakfast. I also have to brag about how great she has become in her crate as long as she's been allowed to play puppy-hard and interact with her human and doggie friends during the day. She didn't make a peep last night! (FYI - she's better with an open wire kennel...a blanket over the top for security worked well) She was a bit hesitant when I put her in a closed travel crate although that could just be because it smells like my cat, Sophie). ;o) Bernadette is a truly sweet Aussie Shep/Border Collie mix, also known as an AusBor (in other words, she's a stunning designer dog, teehee)! Bernie weighs just 8.8 lbs. and has a calm, gentle nature and always sweet (no matter what!) personality. She gets along famously with my senior 80 lb. Smooth Coat Collie and young, energetic 14 lb. Miniature Poodle and is very polite with my cats. In other words she's perfect and I'd never let her go if my husband didn't put his foot down at 5 pets! Full disclosure - Bernadette is the greatest companion I've ever fostered! She perks up with love every time she sees me...and actually engages with pure joy with every human and dog she meets...always behaving herself like a champion. What can I say...Bernie is a dream-puppy..no kidding! She is a wonderful companion, loves to be in your lap but never needy or whiny (unless very tired). She will steal your heart (and the hearts of your family) instantly. I only ask that she be loved completely. No dog ever deserved it more! Our rescue assessment of sweet Bernadette is that her kind nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...she makes playmates everywhere she goes. Bernie is very outgoing and social and that means everyone she meets can ultimately becomes a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Bernie's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through her entire body ending into a smile. And if your lap is available, up Bernadette goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of her devotion. Bernadette is such a wonderful being...we think she represents the best qualities of her breed mix. As Bernie has become comfortable in a foster home, she has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier her family is with her behavior, the more she shines with her accomplishments. We would like to see Bernie in a home that includes her in family time and activities... and takes that extra step to participate in puppy kindergarten followed by positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart dog like Bernadette and molds them into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation. Bernie would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Bernadette would enjoy another playful dog to run and tumble with...she's so entertaining as she puts her positive energy into some serious play. Bernadette will arrive on transport in Denver on 8/28/15. If interested in this sweet, playful and very loyal companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-08-20-00399Jennifer (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is Jennifer! On May 5th, her mom knew she was about to bring Jennifer & her littermates into this world. She had been living life as a stray, scavenging for food to support her unborn family. She wanted a better life for her pups. She wandered into a nice, Arkansas neighborhood and gave birth in someones backyard. It was a smart decision because the family took them in! They decided to adopt mom & find homes for her babies. Alison, a wonderful rescuer in AR, reached out to us in hopes of rescue for the litter. How could we possibly say no!? We think there are many dads to this litter of pups because they all look so different! Mom is a ... (Read More)yellow lab mix who is around 35lbs. We are giving our best guess but can't promise you we're right. Who cares though, rescue mutts are the CUTEST! Jennifer's foster mom says 'This little gal is a rockstar' She is always smiling. She is super friendly and an all around great dogs. VERY social and not shy at all. Gets along with everyone!' Jennifer is really a blank slate, these early months will really shape who she is as an adult. We encourage our adopters to take puppies to positive reinforcement obedience classes & to socialize them as much as possible! Jennifer is currently in Arkansas and will be transported to Colorado when we have an open foster or an approved adopter ready to welcome her. If you think you can give this Cinco De Mayo baby the life she deserves please email us at sunshinecanyondr@gmail.com. Thanks! (Less)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Cher was found in a Greeley neighborhood just before July 4th, running down the middle of the street, scared to death of all the fireworks going off. We think that Cher is possibly a mini Aussie mix. She's so sweet and loving, but a bit shy. She weighs only 18 lbs. She and Sonny were found together and are quite bonded. Both are crate trained and have NEVER soiled their crate. They will both be spayed/neutered, and UTD on shots before going to their new home(s). We are hoping to find a loving home for the pair together. They are perfect for a quiet home. A Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado application is required and $150 donation to cover ... Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I am a very affectionate boy and sensitive to human and dog feelings. I love to work and am very intelligent. I am a very loving and loves to sleep near my humans! I need a little space when meeting new people so I can check them out first. Once I get to know you I am all yours. I am good with dogs close to my size. I have not met any kids yet but would probably be best with older kids. I would love an active forever home. I would be fine living with other dogs or being an only dog.

Rescue Me ID: 15-08-10-00300Dusty (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

First of all he is a great dog towards me and well trained, as far as sit, stay, lay down, go there, roll over, and just about everything really, and he is eager to please. But he is too protective of me. He was a rescue, and had lived with a homeless man, but I was unaware of that when I got him. I've had numerous trainers out here to correct his behavior. I've called vets and shelters. I am listing him here as my last option. The problem is that on two occasions he bit people who inadvertently invaded my space. I have 13 grandchildren, one of which lives with me, and 2 adult children. Yesterday, after my adult daughter, who ... (Read More)doesn't live here was playing ball and petting my dog and he was fine with that, she went upstairs and came into my room where I was. My dog was basically guarding the door I guess. So when she attempted to enter my room, he jumped up and latched onto her leg and bit her. She had a hard time getting loose. The other time he bit, a man came up to my car while I had my dog on a leash and Dusty jumped up and bit him on the arm, drawing blood. No reports were filled, as the man is a friend and said Dusty is a good dog, that needs a chance. I can't have him in my house any longer. There is nothing wrong with him medically, and he has no problem with other animals. He's lived with 2 of our dogs and prior to that several other dogs, in his last home. He's fine around children as far as I know. His only issue that I am aware of, is that he's too protective of his main owner. Dusty would be great for a person living alone, or who might need protection and doesn't have many outsiders coming to visit. Or he would be good for someone who can kennel him whenever they have company. Or if someone has the funds to have him trained properly. He is otherwise an awesome dog, very sweet and so willing to do whatever you ask him to. He only asks that you play with the tennis ball with him every daily for a bit. I don't want to have to have him euthanized! This will break my heart! (Less)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Dodie is a mini Australian shepherd. She weighs 30 lbs. She is a very, very sweet, loving dog. Her mission in life is to snuggle with her humans. She does not bark much, only when someone walks by the window. She does not have a strong herding instinct. She is 7 1/2. I have had her since she was 12 weeks. She should go to a home where she will be the only dog. She has always had a dog door leading to a fenced yard, and it is highly advised she have this in the home she goes to. She is used to going out whenever she needs to relive herself. She likes to spend her days either in my living room or at the foot of my bed. She should be ... (Read More)adopted by someone who likes to have a cuddly dog and does not mind the dog on the bed or couch. She is very warm and has fluffy, soft fur. She is a great companion dog. When I walk her she is great with other dogs. She will usually just sniff them. She is not great with other dogs in the home. She gets territorial around her food, water, and the bed. She also doesn't usually engage in much play with other dogs. She is more interested in human affection. She is a low maintenance, easy, lovable dog. She would be a great companion for someone who works from home or is retired. She just had her teeth cleaned and is up to date with all of her shots. (Less)

Got energy? Me too! Hi, I'm Taylor, and I like to go non-stop. I love, and need, long walks or runs, and would do best with an adopter who spends lots of time outside being active.     Akira is our special girl! She is a double merle aussie which is the result of poor breeding. She was brought to a high kill shelter because she is deaf and somewhat visually impaired. Since Akira was born this way she doesn't know the difference! Her vision is not bad and she can get around just fine! Once you've lived with a deaf dog for long enough you forget they are deaf! They are often velcro dogs who want to follow you everywhere. She is SO full of love and light. Akira gets along with dogs & loves all people. Akira is 10 months old and knows 'sit'. Cooper is an extremely loving dog once trust is established and he loves to hike, play fetch, and go for walks. He walks with a pinch collar to minimize pulling and reacting to other dogs. Rescue Me ID: 15-07-01-00902Desmond (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable puppy. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great Oklahoma rescuers in saving Desmond...they could see that his temperament was so sweet and playful in an appropriate puppy-like way, that she couldn't allow him to be euthanized. Desmond is such a sweet and endearing spirit who cuddles against you to show his unending good-will and true love for humans - such a special boy! Desmond was immediately brought for his ... (Read More)puppy-vetting and then on to a great Oklahoma foster home to receive pure love and begin his education. Desmond is just about 15 weeks old now and weighs 15 lbs (expected to be approximately 22 - 25 lbs when full-grown.) He is so very sweet, playful and so cuddly that it's become a fun and rewarding experience for his foster mom. Desmond is as cute as a button and so silly. His foster has said they haven't turned on the TV since Desmond came to their house...he's so entertaining. Desmond is like a blank slate...open and curious about everything around him. If he continues this regiment of socialization that promote positive relationships with other dogs (puppy socialization group classes are highly recommended) and bonding with humans...Desmond will become a well-adjusted and pleasant adult companion. He is a gorgeous Aussie mix puppy with the most striking face...a turquoise eye and a brown eye that look into your eyes with wisdom far beyond his puppyish years. He has the cutest antics ever and a shining coat that speaks of good health. Desmond's wise, yet silly demeanor is just who he is...he just appears to be more entertaining than your average puppy. If he is treated kindly with clear behavioral guidelines, Desmond will become a well-adjusted guy who respects his people as his leaders. This is the kind of family we're searching for for this sweet and snuggly puppy. We also feel it's very important that this very smart guy is provided with exercise and mental stimulation. He would be overjoyed with walking along Colorado paths and enjoying the sunshine with his Colorado family. We'd like a family who spends lots of time at home and chooses to include a fuzzy companion in their activities. Desmond can be taught that the car is a fun place that leads to great adventures out in the community and can therefore accompany his family just about anywhere. Desmond will be arriving in Denver unfixed due to his very young age. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs in regard to his neuter and microchip at our Denver vet. Desmond will arrive on transport in Denver on 7/11/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.     Say hello to John Wayne! This sweet pup came to us from a very high-kill shelter in Roswell, NM where he was scheduled to be euthanized. From what you can tell, he's obviously had a very rough past. He's very scared and was completely shut down when he came to our rescue. He's slowly learned to trust us and has made some really good progress with accepting the fact that not all people are bad. John Wayne is so gentle and will let you pet him and kiss him'|he even walks pretty well on a leash! He gets along great with dogs (as long as they're nice to him) and he even likes cats! This boy needs a safe forever home and someone to show him ... (Read More)what unconditional love is! Our adoption process begins with you meeting John Wayne. Feel free to schedule a play date with him and your existing dog(s). After you fill out an application, we will verify your references and do a brief home inspection. If all goes well, we will deliver John Wayne to you for a small adoption fee. You will also have the option to purchase a large wire kennel for an additional fee. We then ask that you sign our adoption contract. We will do a follow-up visit approximately two weeks to one month after the adoption to ensure that John Wayne is adjusting well to his new home and that he is happy and healthy. We feel our adoption process is the best way to vet good owners and to guard against people seeking dogs for dog fighting, bait dogs, and/or dog sales. We only have our rescue dogs' best interest in mind and we do everything we can to insure that they go to the very best home and that it's the perfect fit. (Less)

Lilly: Aussie/Heeler/Collie 1 1/2 yrs.. old, 40 lbs, housebroken. A good Samaritan saw a litter of puppies being dumped, luckily they were able to gather them up and take them home. It appeared that they had been poisoned. Four of the puppies died. The remaining 4 puppies didn't get very sick and we were able to save them. Lilly is the only one that has not found her forever home. She is very very shy and will need a lot of work, so we are also looking for a home with another dog and no small children. Call Cindy at (970) 353-1385.

Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
