Rescue Me ID: 16-01-06-00573Skylar (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

There's nothing quite like young energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm puppy breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think that they're homeless in rural Texas. A kind rescuer temporarily took Skyler in to prevent her from the horrors of a high-kill shelter...and then realized that her landlord wasn't on board. Off Skyler went again to what this rescuer thought was the only possibility in this rural area...the shelter. Our rescuer, recognizing the wonderful personality and very sweet temperament of the puppy that had just been relinquished, contacted Farfel's Rescue. ... (Read More)Farfel's was told about the great personality and over- the- top cuteness of this special puppy and made the decision to help Skyler find her first- ever forever family. Skyler absolutely deserves a great home and loving guardian just as much as any other sweet puppy with a great temperament. Skyler, at just about 14 weeks old and 9 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 30 - 35 lbs when full-grown), was facing the possible end of her life just as it was beginning. ...she was rescued just in the nick of time. This sweet and engaging Australian Shepherd/Cattle Dog mix (an up and coming breed mix that's loved for their beauty, intelligence and engaging personalities) is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. Skyler is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart and very engaging...so typical of both her breeds. She's also bright and very loving (loves to cuddle in your lap-but watch out..puppy energy may call). Skyler clearly has no memory of her scary early life. Since Skyler is such a young girl, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion. Skyler will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through being exposed to many different situations out in the world. Puppy kindegarten and positive reinforcement group obedience classes will teach Skyler the skills to be a great adult dog. It does take a bit of time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the outside world with appropriate behavior. We're open to Skyler finding her forever home with active retirees or a family (with gentle kids) who have lots of energy to train and enjoy a young dog. Skyler is known to do very well with children (but has never been formally temperament tested) and other playful yet gentle dogs are very fun for Skyler. Skyler is up to date on her vetting, but has yet to be spayed. We're hoping that she will be fixed when she arrives from Texas, however a puppy like Skyler is often deemed too young to fix. If this is the case, Farfel's will cover all costs for her to be spayed and micro chipped at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Skyler will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 1/15/16. If interested in this beautiful and very sweet best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-12-11-00412Kenya (female)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Kenya is a 10 year old full bred black tri Australian Shepherd. She doesn't have the common white fur around the neck, but her coloring is gorgeous. We have pedigree papers and all vet/vaccination papers. She has been such a wonderful dog but I just had my second child and cannot keep up with walking her and giving her the love and attention she needs and deserves. She is fantastic with people, she probably thinks she is one....she's an indoor dog but can do a couple hours at a time outside. She is obedient and super affectionate. If I were to point out a flaw, it would be that she does not play well with other dogs. She is an Alpha female ... (Read More)so she gets grumpy (barks and wants to fight) when she feels threatened by another dog. It's best Kenya goes to a home with no other dogs. Even though she is 10 years old, she is in perfect health and shows no signs of slowing down. Donation fee will be donated to this website :) Thank you for your consideration to adopt this sweet dog. She is house-trained, gets along with other dogs as long as not provoked. She is very affectionate and wants to be with her humans. She is very playful and loves the snow.     Lilly: Aussie/Heeler/Collie 2 1/2 yrs. old, 40 lbs, housebroken. A good Samaritan saw a litter of puppies being dumped, luckily they were able to gather them up and take them home. It appeared that they had been poisoned. Four of the puppies died. The remaining 4 puppies didn't get very sick and we were able to save them. Lilly is the only one that has not found her forever home. She is very very shy and will need a lot of work, so we are also looking for a home with another dog and no small children. PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Shepherd in Colorado
Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.

Australian Shepherd
lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost Colorado Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Australian Shepherds are descended from Spanish dogs that were used for herding Merino sheep. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
