Rescue Me ID: 18-06-16-00347Rookie (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rookie is a 3MO shepherd/lab mix. We are not 100% sure about the breeds, but that is our best guess. Rookie and his two siblings were dumped at a shelter in TX at only 2 months old. The shelter they were dumped at was incredibly full and only a small percent make it out alive. We knew these babies deserved a second chance at life as their only crime was being born. They are now here in CO and ready to find their forever homes! Both Rookie and his sister Nala are as sweet as can be! They love the kiddos in their house right now, and are beyond sweet and loving to all people and dogs. They have the happy, playful puppy personality, but ... (Read More)are not overwhelming or out of control. They love to snuggle and need a family who has a good balance of exercise and snuggles. They will be about 40lbs (give or take a few) full grown. They have the softest fur and the most beautiful eyes! If you are interested in adopting Rookie or Nala, please email us at brighterdaysdogrescue@gmail.com (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-06-16-00131Alice (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Whenever a sweet and engaging herding dog gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of this breed mix are very loving, super- smart (considered by many to be the most intelligent dogs available today) and make loyal and sweet family companions. Alice will fit so well into a household and make an excellent best friend for all age groups as well as gentle canines. Alice is one of these cuddly and very sweet Australian Shepherd/Labrador Retriever mixes. The New Mexico vets believe Alice to be about 7 - 9 months old and 30 lbs (anticipated to be approximately 33 - 35 lbs when full-grown) Alice (once ... (Read More)comfortable in her environment) is very puppyish in her enthusiasm for all people that are kind to her. She has a love of life and positive attitude that touches the heart. After all, his very deserving girl has never had a loving and nurturing family to call her own. She has been a victim of circumstance in her life...Farfel's Rescue is committed to changing this for this dog that has so much to offer a committed family. Rescue dogs can initially be a bit shy or nervous..this is expected in light of the very long transports and stresses of rehoming. When an adopting family is sensitive to the challenges of change and acclimation for these dog's, the transition is far easier. A home with a very loving and nurturing family that provides understanding that blossoming takes time, socialization, pure love and belly rubs is a gift to a dog that is undergoing a life change. Given the time and space, these dogs shine. Alice is one of these pups that is a blank slate just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best friend, loyal companion and the greatest lap dog ever. Group training classes with a positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Alice and her family (as it does every dog and their people). Together they will learn the skills to have Alice be a companion that is well-behaved in every situation. It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. Alice is such a great age and size... at 7 - 9 months old, Alice is a perfect age - young enough to be a completely blank slate open to training and new concepts while being old enough to have left her babyish behaviors behind. We envision active, dog-loving retirees for our sweet girl..she would be thrilled with the time spent. Alice would also do great with a younger family that works from home to love this wonderful dog up throughout the day. Alice loves kids (a bit older is great so no tail-pulling occurs) and would thrive with the fun and special kind of love that children provide. We feel that Alice is too sensitive to spend long hours alone while her family works full-time outside the home. Alice has a beautiful coat that is currently shelter sad. With a commitment to sudsy baths/brushing and great nutrition (a salmon oil supplement is a great lifelong supplement for coat care as well as longevity) Alice's coat coat will be cottony-soft, very healthy and less likely for shedding. Alice won't be spayed when she arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this industrial area of New Mexico. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Alice's spay and microchip after her arrival on transport if our Denver vet is used. Alice is arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 616/18. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet pup. If interested in this adorable ...and very cuddly and loving best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit. PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Alice, please be sure to submit our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-06-09-00007Luna (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our sweet and beautiful Luna couldn't be more loving no matter how hard she tries. Luna is an 18 - 24 month old, 33 pound Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix that is just waiting to be the love of someone's life. Both Australian Shepherds and Border Collies (herding breeds) have grown tremendously in popularity over the past few years. It makes perfect sense in that they're known for their gorgeous looks, great temperaments, super intelligence and loyalty...and so important...a deep love for their families. Farfel's rescues almost every herding mix that passes our temperament testing and is in need of our help... with the confidence they ... (Read More)will have great energy and be excellent family members. Luna has all these wonderful traits and was described by her New Mexico foster mom as PERFECTLY WONDERFUL! Luna has had a challenging period of time but is now safe and sound'|never to be cold or hungry again. But with it all'|she doesn't hold a grudge and desires only to be the best companion possible. Since Luna is a young girl, she's a blank slate'|open to all possibilities if treated kindly and with respect. Group training classes with a positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Luna and her family (as it does every dog and their people). Together they will learn the skills to have Luna be a companion that is well-behaved in every situation. It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. Luna (while initially shy) tends to be a loving and sensitive girl who loves life and responds so well to nurturing and time spent together (hugs and kisses are absolutely awesome)... and of course some great treats are always a wonderful option. Luna gets very attached to those she loves and before you know it, is on her way to her favorite people for belly rubs and and a big hug. Luna loves to come along ..be it to a dog-friendly workplace, a long and very fun hike, a vacation or just socializing'|Luna would love to be there as Companion #1. She has such a pleasant personality and is low-maintenance enough to fit in just about anywhere . We envision Luna in a home that will provide her with exercise and mental stimulation (so important for the VERY smart herding breeds). Luna wouldn't be happy spending long hours alone'|she is far too people-oriented to be happy with that. A retiree or a person who works either part-time or from home would be great. Luna would love the companionship and consistency of those relationships. Being a young dog, she'll also learn that she's loved and cared for. This is a lesson that results in a happy and confident adult dog. We've requested that Luna be spayed prior to her transport to Colorado. We're hoping that this will occur but often does not in these industrial areas where there just aren't enough vets. If it doesn't.. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Luna's spay and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Luna will be arriving on transport in Denver in mid June...we'll update the exact day when information is finalized. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested please fill out completely and submit. **PLEASE NOTE - If you're truly interested in adopting Luna, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

After several weeks in a foster, we've learned about Lola's habits, both good and bad. Lola is a 1.5 y/o, 16# mini Aussie/Corgi blend who loves people and other dogs once she knows them. She has a very inappropriate greeting with new people and dogs and will require continued training with this issue. She is potty trained and has lovely leash manners except when she sees another dog; she will need continued training with this issue. She displays herding behaviors with other dogs but is very focused on her person esp if they're offering her treats. She is very food motivated. She is slightly leash and barrier reactive but is easily ... (Read More)redirected with high value treats. She now barks at and tries to herd kitty. Lola absolutely does NOT like kids. No children under 16 y/o for Lola. She would like a fenced in yard and someone who will teach her fun things and continue with her training. Lola is a very delightful little dog despite her bad habits with greetings. Please complete an application at https://www.lowridersofthewest.org/adoption-application.html if interested in meeting Lola. She's being fostered in Littleton, CO and we'd like to adopt her within a couple hours driving distance. These are non-negotiable requirements to adopt Lola: -herding dog breed experience -+R training experience -No children or visiting grandchildren Preference may be given to sport homes who understand how to train and manage nipping and reactivity (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Shepherd in Colorado
Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.

Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Aussies are often used by police for narcotics detection. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
