Rescue Me ID: 17-07-22-00149Romeo (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Had to change his shelter name. We have a human Shawn and I keep saying I have to get Shawn neutered and it's just too... There's an incredible (and sad) story of a lone wolf, of Mendenhal Glacier Juneau, Alaska. You can Google, this dog looks very much like the wolf namesake. It is a great read. This Romeo's story: Deemed URGENT! He was in Ramona Animal Shelter, scared to death, and shutting down. I was told he stopped eating and he started coughing, wasn't looking good. Karen Stromfeld%BD'%BD%BD had him pulled, and Pilots n Paws flew him here. Thank you pilots, and Sue Weis for coordinating. Romeo transformed during the flight. ... (Read More)By the time I met him he was much more open. He hopped into the back seat of my car and we had an uneventful decompression ride home. Once here, Romeo met several new dogs without incident. He checked out the yard and started playing like crazy with the other dogs. He bounces! Romeo is probably an Aussie / Border Collie mix. He has a wolfish head, but that may be a Belgian Shepard thing, a lot of Border Collie lines, had Belgian Shepherds bred into the line many, many years ago. I was going to have Romeo shaved, but I started on him with a rake while out in the woods, where hair everywhere doesn't matter, in fact the birds love it for nests. What looked like matted fur, were tufts easily pulled out, so it was pretty easy and he looks thinner! Way better! I'll be continuing to knock it down over the next few days. But he won't be shaved. Awesome with the other dogs. I haven't seen him lift his leg or do the territorial scratch in the bark, after doing his biz. He's a cool dog. Very mellow and easygoing. Romeo is bout 5, and came to the shelter as a stray. He's kind of a big guy, about 54 lbs. Romeo is one of the lucky ones... He went on his first pack walk, same day he flew in. Gaging by his receptiveness to me after I left him with my pack for a couple hours, I made a decision and kept him on a leash today. We'll work up to off leash. Have to say, he's very gentle on a leash, and would often lick my knee or hand. He was unsure of the water, but he's getting used to it! Here is a link to the story of the the wolf, Romeo: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/03/150322-romeo-wolf-dog-animals-wildlife-alaska-ngbooktalk/ Photos updated at:%BD%A0https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1939322126283857.1073742482.1428374324045309&type=1&l=39bbc4fe81 Adoption fee is $150, to cover vetting, transportation, micro-chip + registration. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Josie is about a year old. We are guessing she is a cattle dog mix. She's crate trained and obedience trained by d911topdog.com. She is terrific with other dogs, cats that are dog savvy and kids. Josie was living her life in the fields of Palmdale. She was basically feral. She didn't know human interaction and was like swordfish fighting a fishing line on a leash. Now, she is a well mannered doggy and she's learning to enjoy and accept affection. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization. Adoption process includes an adoption contract and home check. Rescue Me ID: 17-06-24-00119Benji (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Benji, He is an Australian Shepherd, tricolored with a long beautiful coat and two toned eyes. He is happy, playful, energetic and loving. He has been in training for the last few years and here is what she had to say. Benji is 9 years old. He has come a long way. He does have some social issues but over the last few years, the trainer has been working on him and he can be around a pack of dogs. He would work best with a firm handle that knows how to handle dogs. He is very smart and loving and eager to please his owner. He has lived with another female for the last 7 years, though they are having issues now, it does show his ... (Read More)compatibility with other dogs. The trainer believes the issue between Benji and his sister is due to her decline in health and signs of dementia and disorientation. There is now a stress between them because he does not understand what is going on and why she acts strangely at times. HE is crate trained and house broken. He is up to date on all of his shots and is neutered. The trainer has used an E collar on him which he responds to very well. The E-Collar is used infrequently now because he listens and responds to commands and cues. Usually, the collar is used to help redirect his energy. Health Issues: He has skin allergies, which he takes a pill every day. (4 mg of methylprednisolone). This costs about approximately $1 day. Training; Benji is very smart and learns new commands quickly. Though he is 9 years old, he has a lot of energy and does best when he has a task at hand to help refocus his energy. This boy has a lot of life and love to give. He will be a perfect dog for someone who is patient, active and knows how to handle a strong and energetic dog. (Less)

This is Mickey. He is a 7 year old Australian Shepherd mix. (see video) Mickey is a good boy. He is house trained. He also has his basic obedience down and will benefit from reinforcement. Mickey loves to go for walks and on adventures. He is good on leash and pulls a bit. He is a good passenger in a car. Mickey is also wonderful with people. He is good with men, women, and kids. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He starts off a bit shy but warms right up and is a friendly guy. Mickey is good in public. He is generally good with other dogs at his home, too. Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

**Sorry, we cannot adopt outside the Southern California area*** DOB: June 2005 || BREED/COLORING: Australian Shepherd and Rhodesian Ridgeback mix - red (he has one blue eye and one brown eye) || SIZE: Bloo weighs about 40bs and is full grown || HISTORY: Bloo was dumped at a City Shelter by his family in late 2005. We saw him at a big adoption event and decided to get him out of the shelter before he was euthanized. || PERSONALITY: Bloo is an amazing boy. He is very sweet and smart and absolutely LOVES to be petted and brushed. He makes gurgling noises when you scratch his neck and he's just waggy and friendly all the time. || TRAINING: ... (Read More)Bloo knows SIT and is great on leash when he has a good handler. He will need some re-work on his housebreaking, but is so smart it won't take long. He is also great with a crate - so he could be crate trained really easily too. || WOULD DO BEST: Bloo would like a yard for sure - maybe even another doggie to hang out with. He would do great with someone who has at least some experience with dog training - and would probably REALLY do well at agility training. || CATS/DOGS/KIDS: Bloo has been around indoor cats his whole life and is indifferent to them. He is great with other dogs on a one-on-one basis - but isn't recommended for dog parks because he will try to referee any doggie argument that takes place :) Bloo would make a FANTASTIC family dog for homes with children. || VET RECORD :All of our dogs are currently vaccinated, spayed/neutered and microchipped prior to adoption. Rescue Me ID: 17-05-25-00019Ty (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This is my sweet baby boy Ty and it hurts so much to give him up, but the truth is I had to go away for college and I know he's not getting at much love and care as he deserves. He recently crawled through the tattered remains of our fence in the back yard and now my parents have him chained. I rescued this Australian Shepard pit bull mix as a puppy out of a storm drain and he's been my family ever since. This now 55 pound, knee height dog loves long walks and he's energetic and playful and he brightens up every single day. He loves belly rubs and running, and he loves hugs and attention. I trained him how to sit, shake, stay, come, and ... (Read More)heel. He is also able to learn new commands very easily. His favorite scratch spots are his ears, butt, and belly... scratch him there and he'll love you for life. I've never seen him be aggressive with another dog except for one time when he was attacked, and he just nipped for the other dog to stop. He sleeps on his head because he's a dork and he's kennel and mostly house trained. I've taken him to the Ag farm with me, as I was president of FFA, and he was never aggressive and never went after any of the farm animals. I always let him out front with me when I was working on the car and he loves to lay in the sun and sleep. I've never had an issue with him not listening to me when I call him back to the house. As long as he knows you love and care about him he will listen to you. He's such a playful dog that we've only had issues with his playing with small dogs. He would never be aggressive toward another dog, but he does play too hard. Every time he got loose he got excited and tried to play with a small dog (like chihuahuas). I wasn't home to watch Ty, and it would not have happened if I were there. Both times Ty played too rough and injured the other dog, needless to say he may need to be in a house with no other animals. My brother had three small poodle mix puppies that Ty played well with, but we always monitored them closely because of the size difference. I personally feel that he would be okay around children as long as he is supervised closely; he would never be aggressive, but he does get excited and plays rough. It's extremely important to me that I find a safe and happy home for Ty, because if I can't re-home him by the next month my parents have stated that they will take him to be put down when I'm at college because they don't want to put the time and attention into him. I have tons more pictures and information if you'd like to contact me. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Shepherd in California
Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.

lnteresting Australian Shepherd Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
