Rescue Me ID: 17-05-16-00301Wilbur and Charlotte (male)

Australian Shepherd    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We have two Australian Shepherds that need to be rehomed. They are wonderful dogs and I'm hesitant to do this at all but with a pregnant wife and other business, I just don't feel we have had the energy or time to devote to them. We have a big back yard but they have been difficult to keep inside and although obedient most of the time, if they find an opening they have been running away. They don't have papers, are brother and sister and must go together, are spade and neutered and are good indoors (although we didn't keep them inside the vast majority of the time since they are certainly outdoor dogs). They are good with our children but ... (Read More)they grew up with them so I'm not vouching for children they aren't used to, at least not at first. They are super sweet but tend to be protective of their living area and will bark meanly at people approaching that they don't know. They just turned two years old and have relatively current vaccinations but are due for heartworm if I'm not mistaken. My wife has vaccination paperwork that we will pass along.I am uploading a picture of them I took today. I just gave them their summer haircut (did a terrible job since they were squirmy) but during the winter they have long beautiful flowing coats. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-04-11-00217Blackie (male)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Blackie will tug at your heart strings! His face, his demeanor and bubbly personality is all it takes! Chained his entire life and then freed to explore, be loved and live in a home. This beautiful older boy is easy going and just wants attention and to have a forever home! Black is approx., 8 yrs old, 35 pounds, lab/Aussie mix; great with other dogs and enjoys playing with them whenever he gets a chance, it is like a puppy bulb went off on him and he realizes that all is well, and it is just fine to pounce, play fight, run, bark and have a good time with other dogs. He likes being with others but is just fine on his own as well. He is eager ... (Read More)to please and wants to be inside with you. He has grown accustomed to sleeping in the bed with a person and with another dog. He is more energetic compared to his brother Brownie also needing a home but compared to normal dogs his energy level is about average. Loves to walk on a leash and will talk to you when you ask if he wants to go. Will definitely let you know when someone is at your door or has pulled up into your drive. Not a digger, not destructive, no bad habits. Black will require a home where he is strictly an inside dog that get walked daily or a home with a privacy fence. He can be adopted alone or if at all possible with his brother Brownie. To adopt Blackie please go to our website and complete the pre-adoption application http\://www.southernskiesrescue.org Black is fully vetted and microchipped. (Less)

Animal ID: 1130Maggie (female)

Australian Shepherd Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello all! My name is Maggie and I am an Australian Shepherd mix (possibly with catahoula) who is excited to find my very own furever family! I'm about 1.5 years old and approximately 26lbs, so I'm on the smaller side. Some of you may remember me from my somewhat viral first Facebook appearance when I was found with a broken leg left at a shelter in rural Alabama with my little puppy, Sadie! (Now ASF Alumi, Winter!) I had surgery on my leg (yuck!) and had to recover from that but I was determined to heal quickly and get back to running full speed, and here I am doing just that! You can barely tell it even happened once I get warmed up, but I ... (Read More)do have a slight limp when I first wake up and sometimes I stop using my leg that was hurt but only for a moment and it doesn't slow me down a bit! I am always happy, sweet and loving, I love to run and play, and I LOVE playing with kids. My foster mom's 2 youngest babies are always covered in Maggie kisses! I am good with other dogs, good in a kennel, and my foster mom says just a good little dog all around! I'm medium energy... I adjust to what everyone else is doing. I'm good inside and don't jump on people, I can lay at your feet or run the back yard at full speed and be happy either way. My foster mom doesn't have any cats but she thinks I would do fine with cats as nothing really bothers me and I don't bark much at all. I am awaiting heartworm treatment and will be spayed before being adopted, but my time is coming and I will be ready before we know it!!! If you are interested in adopting Maggie please fill out an application at http://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application. Her adoption fee is $275 all proceeds go towards future rescues. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Shepherd in Alabama
Australian Shepherd Dogs can make good pets in Alabama if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Shepherd, or Aussie, is a playful breed that provides excellent companionship to active children. Aussies are smart, trainable, protective, and eager to please. Australian Shepherds are gentle with humans and aggressive when herding farm animals. Aussies are active even when indoors and do best with plenty of exercise in a large yard.

Australian Shepherds are not Australian; they were developed in the United States for herding livestock on American ranches. Aussies can be trained to perform tricks. Some Australian Shepherds are prized for their beautiful merle coloring, but the gene that causes this coloring also results in deafness or blindness.
